''P.M. News'' is a daily newspaper published in Lagos, Nigeria, by the Independent Communications Network Limited (ICNL). The company also publishes the weekly ''TheNEWS'' magazine and ''Tempo'', a tabloid. ''The News'' was founded in 1993 by Bayo Onanuga, Babafemi Ojudu and other former staff from the ''African Concord'' who had resigned in protest over a request by M. K. O. Abiola, the publisher, to apologise to President Ibrahim Babangida over a critical story about the military regime. Ojudu was the first Managing Editor. After harassment by the Babangida regime, there was a brief period of press freedom under General Sani Abacha during which ''P.M. News'' was launched in August 1994 as a breezy afternoon paper strongly oriented towards news but also covering fashions, sports and entertainment. In the years that followed, ''P.M. Bayo Onanuga
Bayo Onanuga (born 20 June 1957) is a Nigerian journalist. He founded ''TheNews Magazine'' and was appointed managing director of the News Agency of Nigeria by president Muhammadu Buhari. Preceding that, he was CEO and managing director of PM News and TheNEWS magazine. Background Onanuga was born to a family of Anikilaya in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State. He attended his Muslim College Ijebu for his primary and secondary school in Ode and finished in 1974 and proceeded to Federal Government College, Odogbolu in 1975 to 1977. In 1977, Onanuga was admitted to University of Lagos where he graduated in 1980 with a degree in mass communication. Babafemi Ojudu
Babafemi Ojudu (born 27 March 1961) is a Nigerian journalist who was elected Senator for the Ekiti Central constituency of Ekiti State, Nigeria, in the April 2011 national elections. He ran on the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) platform. Early life and education Babafemi Ojudu was born on 27 March 1961 at Ado-Ekiti in Ekiti State. He attended Ado Grammar School in Ado-Ekiti (1973–77). Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (born 17 August 1941) is a Nigerian statesman and military dictator who ruled as military president of Nigeria from 1985 when he orchestrated a coup d'état against his military and political arch-rival Muhammadu Buhari, until his resignation in 1993 as a result of the crisis of the Third Republic. Sani Abacha
Sani Abacha (; (20 September 1943 – 8 June 1998) was a Nigerian military dictator and statesman who ruled Nigeria with an iron fist as military head of state from 1993 following a palace coup d'état until his death in 1998. Abacha's seizure of power was the last successful coup d'état in Nigerian military history.
