Plato ( ; Greek language, Greek: , ; born BC, died 348/347 BC) was an ancient Greek philosopher of the Classical Greece, Classical period who is considered a foundational thinker in Western philosophy and an innovator of the written dialogue and dialectic forms. He influenced all the major areas of theoretical philosophy and practical philosophy, and was the founder of the Platonic Academy, a philosophical school in History of Athens, Athens where Plato taught the doctrines that would later become known as Platonism. Plato's most famous contribution is the theory of forms, theory of forms (or ideas), which aims to solve what is now known as the problem of universals. He was influenced by the pre-Socratic thinkers Pythagoras, Heraclitus, and Parmenides, although much of what is known about them is derived from Plato himself. George Haimsohn
George Haimsohn (June 12, 1925 – January 17, 2003) was an American writer and photographer. He was best known for co-writing the book and libretto of the popular 1960s Off-Broadway musical '' Dames at Sea''. He produced male nude and " physique photography" under the name Plato, and wrote a number of gay male erotic novels under the name Alexander Goodman''.'' Biography Haimsohn was born in St. Louis, Missouri. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War 2, and subsequently graduated from the University of California at Berkeley. In 1952 he moved to Greenwich Village, New York City. In the mid-1960s, he anonymously wrote ''The Gay Coloring Book'' and ''My Trip Around the World'', comedic picture books illustrated by Dom Orejudos (a.k.a. "Etienne"), depicting the social and sex lives of contemporary gay men living in the Village. Plato, Saskatchewan
Plato is an Unincorporated area#Canada, unincorporated community within the Rural Municipality of Snipe Lake No. 259, Saskatchewan, Canada. The community was named after Plato, Minnesota, which had been the home town of Richard and Agnes Brust, early pioneers. The town is a few hundred yards off Saskatchewan Highway 44. While the highway is paved, the town itself contains only gravel roads, and several houses remain abandoned. The town retains a small Canada Post, post office. Samuel Plato
Samuel M. Plato (1882–1957) was an American architect and General contractor, building contractor in the United States. His work includes federal housing projects and U.S. post offices, as well as private homes, banks, churches, and schools. During World War II, the Alabama native was one of the few African-American contractors in the country to be awarded wartime building contracts, which included Wake and Midway Halls (dormitories for more than 800 African-American defense workers in Washington, D.C.). He also received contracts to build at least thirty-eight U.S. post offices across the country. Plato began his career as an architect and building contractor in 1902 in Marion, Indiana, at a time when segregation and racism made it challenging for African-American professionals such as architects. Daniel Plato (born 5 October 1960), known as Dan Plato, is a South African politician and a former Member of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament. He served from June 2011 until October 2018 and again from January 2022 until February 2024. He is the former mayor of Cape Town, a position he held for two nonconsecutive terms from May 2009 until June 2011 and again from November 2018 until October 2021.
