Orla Hav (born 3 April 1952 in Nørresundby) is a Danish politician, who is a member of the Folketing for the Social Democrats (Denmark), Social Democrats political party. He was elected into parliament at the 2007 Danish general election. He has previously acted as regional council chairman of the North Jutland Region. Personal life Hav was born on 3 April 1952 in Nørresundby, the son of Kristian Josefsen Hav and Lilly Hav. After graduation he continued his education in Aalborg College of Education from 1972 to 1976 to be a primary school teacher. Political career Throughout his life he was involved with various organisations. He has been an active member of the Social Democratic Party since 1965 and North Jutland County, North Jutland's County Council since 1983. Folketing
The Folketing ( da, Folketinget, ; ), also known as the Parliament of Denmark or the Danish Parliament in English, is the unicameral national legislature (parliament) of the Kingdom of Denmark—Denmark proper together with the Faroe Islands and Greenland. Established in 1849, until 1953 the Folketing was the lower house of a bicameral parliament, called the Rigsdag; the upper house was Landstinget. It meets in Christiansborg Palace, on the islet of Slotsholmen in central Copenhagen. The Folketing passes all laws, approves the cabinet, and supervises the work of the government. It is also responsible for adopting the state's budgets and approving the state's accounts. As set out in the Constitution of Denmark, the Folketing shares power with the reigning monarch. In practice, however, the monarch's role is limited to signing laws passed by the legislature; this must be done within 30 days of adoption.
