Operation Dzikisai Madhishi
Operation Dzikisai Madhishi (Shona, ''Pull down your satellite dish'') was a 2008 operation of the Military of Zimbabwe to remove private homes' satellite dishes. These dishes are often used to view e.tv, SABC, Botswana Television, DSTV and other alternatives to the state-controlled Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation. It began in Matabeleland South in June 2008 and spread soon after to other provinces, carried out by attaches of the Central Intelligence Organisation, Zimbabwe Republic Police, Zimbabwe National Army and youth militia. The Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) are composed of the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) and the Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ). As a landlocked country, Zimbabwe has no navy. The most senior commander of the ZDF is General Philip Valerio Sibanda. At the time of independence after the Rhodesian Bush War, the then Prime Minister Robert Mugabe declared that integrating Zimbabwe's three armed forces would be one of Zimbabwe's top priorities. The existing Rhodesian Army was combined with the two guerrilla armies; the 20,000-strong Zimbabwe African National Liberation Army (ZANLA) forces of Zimbabwe African National Union-PF and the 15,000-strong Zimbabwe People's Revolutionary Army (ZIPRA) forces of PF-Zimbabwe African People's Union. The current manpower stands at an estimated strength of 29,000 in the Army, and an estimated 4,000 in the Air Force. Operation Mavhoterapapi ( en, Operation Where You Put Your X), was a large scale Zimbabwean government campaign to punish those who supposedly voted for the Movement for Democratic Change in the 2008 presidential election rather than for ZANU-PF. However, the campaign met with harsh condemnation from Zimbabwean opposition parties, church groups, non-governmental organizations, and the wider international community.
