Operation Command West
Operational Command West (OC West) is a formation of the Ukrainian Ground Forces in western Ukraine. Its headquarters is located in Rivne. History When Ukraine gained independence from the Soviet Union, there were three Military Districts on its territory. These were the Kyiv, Odessa and Carpathian Military Districts. In 1998, the Western Operational Command was created from the Carpathian Military District. By 1 July 2006, the Western Operational Command consisted of units directly subordinated to the command and to the 13th Army Corps. The Ukrainian Ground Forces ( uk, Сухопу́тні військá Збрóйних сил Украї́ни), also known as the Ukrainian Army, are the Army, land forces of Ukraine and one of the five Military branch, branches of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. They were formed from Soviet Ground Forces formations, units, and establishments, including three military districts (the Kyiv Military District, Kyiv, Carpathian Military District, Carpathian, and Odessa Military District, Odesa Military Districts), that were on Ukrainian soil when the History of the Soviet Union (1985–1991)#Dissolution of the USSR, Soviet Union collapsed. After Declaration of Independence of Ukraine, Ukraine's independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, Ukraine retained its Soviet-era army equipment. 10th Mountain Assault Brigade (Ukraine)
The 10th Mountain Assault Brigade is a mountain warfare brigade of the Ukrainian Ground Forces. It is part of Operational Command West and is based in Kolomyia. Formed in late 2015, the brigade fought in the war in Donbas between May and November 2016, defending positions around Marinka. It again deployed to the Donbas in September 2017, defending positions around Popasna. During the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine the brigade fought around Mariupol in February 2022 and in December 2022 in Bakhmut.
