Old Lincoln High School
Lincoln High School (also known as Lincoln Academy) was a high school located in Tallahassee, Florida, United States. It is commonly referred to as "Historic Lincoln High School" or "Old Lincoln". There is no connection with Leon County's current (and distant) Lincoln High School other than name. History Founding and early years Lincoln Academy opened in 1869 during Reconstruction as the first school for African Americans in Leon County, Florida. It was built by the Freedmen's Bureau. At one point it was one of only three schools in the state that provided high school to colored students. it was one of the best-equipped schools in the state and had an enrollment of 250. John Gilmore Riley House
The John Gilmore Riley House is a historic home in Tallahassee, Florida. It is located at 419 East Jefferson Street. On August 1, 1978, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. It is now known as the John G. Riley Center/Museum of African American History and Culture. History Constructed circa 1890, the Riley House is the last physical evidence of a thriving middle-class African-American community that existed in downtown Tallahassee at the turn of the 20th century known as Smokey Hollow. The house, a two-story vernacular wood-framed home, remained in the family until 1970. Old Dillard High School
The Old Dillard High School, also known as the Colored School or Walker Elementary, is a historic school in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It is located at 1001 Northwest 4th Street. The first school building in Broward County for black students (earlier schools had no building), it was built in 1924 by Cayot & Hart and the architect was John Morris Peterman. On February 20, 1991, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. It is the oldest surviving black school in Fort Lauderdale, and is named for black education advocate James H. Dillard. (A small earlier black school, without a dedicated building, opened in 1907.) Its first principal, from 1924 until 1937, was Joseph A. Ely. Clarence C. The history of Tallahassee, Florida, much like the history of Leon County, dates back to the settlement of the Americas. Beginning in the 16th century, the region was colonized by Europeans, becoming part of Spanish Florida. Famous Amos is a brand of cookies founded in Los Angeles in 1975 by Wally Amos, a former talent agent with William Morris Agency. History Wally Amos, Wallace "Wally" Amos was born in Tallahassee, Florida, United States, on July 1, 1936. In 1948 he moved to New York City to live with his aunt where they often baked cookies together. As an adult, Amos, an United States Air Force, Air Force veteran who worked as a talent agent with the William Morris Agency, would send his home-baked chocolate chip cookies to celebrities to entice them to meet and perhaps sign a deal with his agency. Amos hit a plateau working for the William Morris Agency and decided to strike out on his own.
