Oktober Forlag
Forlaget Oktober is a Norwegian publishing house. Oktober focuses on Norwegian contemporary fiction. In addition, they publish a small selection of non-fiction, poetry, and translated fiction. Annually they release around 50 new titles, and around 150 Norwegian authors are attached to the publishing house. It was established in 1970 by members of SUF (m-l), the former youth league of the Socialist People's Party and later youth league of the Workers' Communist Party. It has been owned by Aschehoug since 1992, and its chief executive officer is Geir Berdahl. The publishing house formerly also used to run a book retailer chain called "Oktober Bokhandel". Characteristic authorships that Oktober has nourished through the years are Dag Solstad, Jon Michelet, Kjell Askildsen, Gunnar Wærness, and Edvard Hoem. Gunnar Wærness (born 22 November 1971) is a Norwegian poet. Tore Renberg is a Norwegian writer. He is the author of many books within many genres, including novels, short-stories and children's books, as well as writing for film and stage. Karl Ove Knausgård
Karl Ove Knausgård (; born 6 December 1968) is a Norwegian author. He became known worldwide for six autobiographical novels, titled ''My Struggle'' (''Min Kamp''). Since the completion of the ''My Struggle'' series in 2011, he has also published an autobiographical series entitled ''The Seasons Quartet'', as well as critical work on the art of Edvard Munch. Tiden Norsk Forlag is a Norwegian publishing company owned by Gyldendal Norsk Forlag. It publishes fiction and general literature. History Tiden was founded in 1933 by the Norwegian Labour Party. In 1936 it bought Fram Forlag. In the early years the largest authors were Aksel Sandemose and Lars Berg, with large names such as Alf Prøysen and Anne Cath. Vestly after the war. Geir Gulliksen (born 31 October 1963) is a Norwegian poet, novelist, playwright, children's writer, essayist and publisher. He was born in Kongsberg. Biography He made his literary debut in 1986 with the novel ''Mørkets munn''. Among his early poetry collections are ''Steder: på torget'' from 1990, and ''monografi'' from 1995. Edvard Hoem
Edvard Hoem (born 10 March 1949) is a Norwegian novelist, dramatist, lyricist, psalmist and government scholar. He made his literary debut in 1969, with the poetry collection ''Som grønne musikantar''. He was awarded the Norwegian Critics Prize for Literature in 1974 for the novel ''Kjærleikens ferjereiser''. He was awarded the Melsom Prize in 2006, and the ''Peter Dass Prize'' in 2007 for the novel ''Mors og fars historie''. He received the ''Ibsen Prize'' in 2008 for the play ''Mikal Hetles siste ord''. Several of his books (''Kjærleikens ferjereiser'' (1974), ''Prøvetid'' (1984), ''Ave Eva'' (1987), ''Mors og fars historie'' (2005)) have been nominated for the Nordic Council's Literature Prize, but did not win this award. Kjell Askildsen
Kjell Askildsen (30 September 1929 – 23 September 2021) was a Norwegian writer probably best known for his minimalistic short stories. Personal life Askildsen was born in Mandal as a son of bailiff and politician Arne Askildsen (1898–1982) and Aasta Håverstad (1898–1978). Before the Second World War his father was the bailiff of Mandal and Halse og Harkmark from 1928, a board member of the Norwegian Lutheran Mission since 1939, and also a member of the school board and city council. During the war and occupation of Norway, his father was imprisoned in Arkivet twice, before escaping to Sweden in 1944. Two older brothers of Kjell Askildsen were held captive in Grini concentration camp. After the war, Askildsen enrolled in the Independent Norwegian Brigade Group in Germany. He was married to a German woman for some time. From August 1951 to March 1968 he was married to Edith Dorothea Mathiessen, and from June 1992 he was married to Gina Giertsen. Jon Michelet
Jon Michelet (14 July 1944, Moss – 14 April 2018, Oslo) was a Norwegian novelist. He had experience in various lines of work, including sailor and dock worker and references to these experiences can be found in his writing. His writing spans several genres such as crime novels, newspaper columns, sports journalism and children's books. Author and editor One of his best-known books is the action-thriller novel Orion's Belt (1977). The novel was adapted into a 1985 film by the same name, which is regarded as Norway's first modern action film. In 1981, he was awarded the Riverton Prize (best Norwegian crime book of the year) for his crime novel Hvit som snø (White as snow). Twenty years later he won the prize again (as the first author to do so) with Den frosne kvinnen (The frozen woman).
