Oļegs Mihailovs
Oļegs Mihailovs (born 23 August 1999) is an international speedway rider from Latvia. Speedway career Mihailovs won two bronze and one silver medal at the Latvian Individual Speedway Championship in 2017, 2018 and 2020 respectively. He qualified for the 2021 Speedway Grand Prix In 2021, he helped the Latvia national speedway team reach their first major final, when participating in the 2021 Speedway of Nations in Manchester. In 2022, he signed for Polonia Bydgoszcz to ride in the Polish leagues. He was called up to the Latvian squad for the 2024 Speedway of Nations. Daugavpils (see also other names) is a state city in southeastern Latvia, located on the banks of the Daugava River, from which the city derives its name. Lokomotīve Daugavpils, also known as Lokomotiv Daugavpils, is a Latvian motorcycle speedway team based in Daugavpils who race in the Polish Speedway Second League (2. Liga). Stadium Stadium Lokomotīve (former name Spīdveja centrs) is located at Jelgavas iela 54, Daugavpils. Its capacity is 10,000 seats. The track is 373 metres long and has a granite surface. Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to simply as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four clockwise, anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. The motorcycles are specialist machines that use only one gear and have no brakes. Racing takes place on a flat oval track usually consisting of soil, dirt, loosely packed shale, or crushed rock (mostly used in Australia and New Zealand). 2021 Speedway Grand Prix
The 2021 Speedway Grand Prix season was the 27th season of the Speedway Grand Prix era, and decided the 76th FIM Speedway World Championship. The calendar of events was disrupted by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the series was dominated by Polish venues once again, with six of the 11 races taking place in Poland. Great Britain and Germany did not hold an event, however Russia was added to the calendar for the first time. In 2020, six of the eight races had been held in Poland. The Latvia national speedway team is one of the nations that compete in international motorcycle speedway. History As the Soviet Union The Soviet Union speedway team (which was composed predominantly of Russian riders but also Ukrainian, Latvian and Belarus riders) first competed in the 1961 edition of the Speedway World Team Cup, where they finished second in the East European round. Throughout the history of World Team Cup, the team were regular World Cup contenders from 1961 until their final World Cup in 1983. 2021 Speedway Of Nations
The 2021 Speedway of Nations (sponsored by Monster Energy) was the fourth FIM Speedway of Nations. The competition consisted of two semi-finals and a final. The final was held on 16 & 17 October 2021 and was won by Great Britain, with Poland taking silver and Denmark bronze. During the final Poland took a first leg lead of ten points ahead of Great Britain. Britain's multiple world champion Tai Woffinden suffered an injury after crashing heavily and was replaced by Dan Bewley for the second leg. Denmark topped the points table during the second leg but Poland earned an automatic place in the grand final after finishing with the highest total from the two legs. This meant that Denmark and Great Britain would take part in the eliminator as the second and third best teams, which Britain won by 6 points to 3. 2024 Speedway Of Nations
The 2024 Speedway of Nations was the sixth edition of the Speedway of Nations, and 32nd edition of a pairs competition for national teams in motorcycle speedway. The competition consisted of three events, which took place at the National Speedway Stadium in Manchester, England, between 9 July and 13 July 2024. The under-21 Speedway of Nations 2 took place at the same venue on 12 July. The first semi-final was won by Sweden, who finished one point ahead of Poland. Germany also secured a place in the final after winning the final qualifier against Finland. 2018 Speedway Under-21 World Championship
The 2018 Individual Speedway Under 21 World Championship was the 42nd edition of the FIM Individual Under-21 World Championship and was staged over three rounds, at Daugavpils, Leszno and Pardubice. Poland's Maksym Drabik was the defending champion having won the title in 2017. Result The title was won by Bartosz Smektała, who beat Drabik by two points. Smektała had trailed Drabik heading into the final round, however he scored a 21-point maximum to take the title. Great Britain's Robert Lambert took bronze.
