Ozyorny, Tver Oblast
Ozyorny (), formerly known as Bologoye-4 (), is a closed urban locality (an urban-type settlement) in Tver Oblast, Russia. Population: History The settlement was founded in the 1930s as a military unit serving Vypolzovo (air base) (the name of the airfield was taken from the nearby settlement of Vypolzovo). In the 1960s, the 7th Guards Rocket Division, operating strategic missiles, was relocated to the settlement and became the major employer. The settlement was known as Bologoye-4 since. In 1992 the urban-type settlement was renamed Ozyorny and officially was granted a status of a closed urban locality. Tver Oblast
Tver Oblast (, ) is a federal subject of Russia (an oblast). Its administrative center is the city of Tver. From 1935 to 1990, it was known as Kalinin Oblast (). Population: Tver Oblast is a region of lakes, such as Seliger and Brosno. Much of the remaining area is occupied by the Valdai Hills, where the Volga, the Western Dvina, and the Dnieper have their source. Tver Oblast is one of the tourist regions of Russia with a modern tourist infrastructure. There are also many historic towns: Torzhok, Toropets, Zubtsov, Kashin, Vyshny Volochyok, and Kalyazin. A closed city or town is a settlement where travel or residency restrictions are applied. Historically, the construction of closed cities became increasingly common after the beginning of the Cold War, particularly in the Soviet Union. Classes During the Soviet time, each of the republics of the Soviet Union, including the Russian SFSR, had its own legislative documents dealing with classification of inhabited localities. Urban-type settlement, abbreviated: ; , abbreviated: ; ; ; ; . is an official designation for lesser urbanized settlements, used in several Central and Eastern Europe, Central and Eastern European countries. The term was primarily used in the Soviet Union and later also for a short time in People's Republic of Bulgaria, socialist Bulgaria and Polish People's Republic, socialist Poland. It remains in use today in nine of the post-Soviet states. The designation was used in all 15 member republics of the Soviet Union from 1922. The 7th Guards Missile Rezhitskaya Red Banner division (Military Unit Number 14245), abbreviated as 7 GRD, is a military unit of the 27th Guards Missile Army, Strategic Rocket Forces located in Ozyorny, Bologovsky District, Tver Oblast, Russia. History On July 14, 1943, the 19th Separate Guards Cannon Artillery Brigade was formed based on the 79th Guards Cannon Artillery Regiment in the area of Staraya Russa. On July 27, 1944, the brigade was awarded the honorary title of "Rezhitskaya" for bravery and heroism shown by its personnel during battles for the seizure of the city of Rēzekne in Latvia, as commended by the Supreme Commander-in-Chief. During the Great Patriotic War, the brigade fought from Staraya Russa to Saldus (Latvia), with Colonel M.I. Sokolov commanding the brigade throughout the war.
