Ozan Lumber Company
The Ozan Lumber Company was a major timber company based in Nevada County, Arkansas, Nevada and Clark County, Arkansas, eventually operating several mills and owning extensive timberlands. It was founded and owned by the Bemis family of Arkansas during the early 20th century, and was prominent during the 1930s and the Great Depression. The family company established a practice of replanting to create sustainable forests. Origins and expansion Texas businessmen J.H. Bemis and his cousin Benjamin Whitaker opened a sawmill, mill in Prescott, Arkansas, calling it the Ozan Lumber Company. Bemis had moved to Texas from New York (state), New York. One of his four sons, Horace Erastus Bemis (H.E.), who died in 1914, had purchased the Prescott and Northwestern Railroad. Pepe Ozan (1939–2013) was an Argentine sculptor, artistic director, and filmmaker. He lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for many years, and is known for his lasting influence at Burning Man, an annual experimental arts festival in Nevada, United States. Arif Şirin, commonly known as Ozan Arif ("Arif the Bard"; June 10, 1949 – February 13, 2019), was a Turkish male folk music artist, poet, composer, songwriter and bağlama performer and teacher foremost known for his songs with lyrics propagating the Idealist cause and Alparslan Türkeş. Life Ozan Arif was born in his father's village Yükselen (Hapu) in Alucra district. By 1970, he had graduated from the Male Teacher's School in Ordu Province and worked as a primary school teacher in Samsun from 1970 to 1979. Following the 1980 Turkish coup d'état, he moved to Germany where he lived until his return to Turkey in 1991.
