Overacting
Overacting (also called hamming, mugging or chewing the scenery) is exaggerated acting, positively or negatively. Uses Some roles require overly-exaggerated character acting, particularly those in comedy films. For example, the breakthrough roles of Jim Carrey in '' Ace Ventura: Pet Detective'' and '' The Mask'' (both 1994) saw him portray the lead characters in a very flamboyant fashion, as the script required. He has since played relatively straight roles. Overacting may be used to portray an outlandish character, or to stress the evil characteristics of a villain. Exaggeration
Exaggeration is the representation of something as more extreme or dramatic than it is, intentionally or unintentionally. It can be a rhetorical device or figure of speech, used to evoke strong feelings or to create a strong impression. Amplifying achievements, obstacles and problems to seek attention is an everyday occurrence Inflating the difficulty of achieving a goal after attaining it, can be used to bolster self-esteem. In the arts, exaggerations are used to create emphasis or effect. As a literary device, exaggerations are often used in poetry, and is frequently encountered in casual speech. Many times the usages of hyperbole describes something as better or worse than it really is. An example of hyperbole is: "The bag weighed a ton." The Devil's Advocate (1997 Film)
''The Devil's Advocate'' (marketed as ''Devil's Advocate'') is a 1997 American supernatural horror film directed by Taylor Hackford, written by Jonathan Lemkin and Tony Gilroy, and starring Keanu Reeves, Al Pacino and Charlize Theron.
