Otrøya
Otrøya is the largest island in Molde Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The island sits at the entrance to Romsdalsfjord, west of the island of Midøya and east of the mainland Romsdal peninsula. The highest point on the island is the mountain ''Oppstadhornet'' at above sea level. The main settlement is the village of Midsund on the west end of the island. Other settlements include Uglvik and Raknes on the north side of the island and Nord-Heggdal on the southeast side of the island. The Church of Norway has two churches on the island: Otrøy Church and Nord-Heggdal Chapel. The Midsund Bridge connects Otrøya to the island of Midøya to the west. On the east end of the island, there is a ferry connection across the Julsundet strait to the village of Mordal in Molde Municipality. Midøya
Midøya (sometimes nicknamed ''Mia'') is an island in Molde Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The island sits at the entrance to the Romsdalsfjorden between the islands of Dryna and Otrøya. The Midsund Bridge connects this island to the village of Midsund on the neighboring island of Otrøya. History Prior to 1902, the island was divided between Skodje Municipality (southwestern half) and Aukra Municipality (northeastern half). In 1902, the part of the island belonging to Skodje Municipality was transferred to the new Vatne Municipality. In 1924, the part belonging to Aukra Municipality became part of the new Sør-Aukra Municipality. In 1965, the whole island became part of the new Midsund Municipality. Romsdalsfjord
or is the ninth-longest fjord in Norway. The long fjord is located in the Romsdal district of Møre og Romsdal county. It flows through the municipalities of Molde, Haram, Vestnes, and Rauma. The deepest point in the fjord is just southwest of the town of Molde, where it is deep. The fjord is a threshold-fjord, as it is separated from the ocean by a deep shallower areas at the mouth. Several islands and skerries also shelter the wide central fjord from the Atlantic. The western inlet of the fjord is generally considered to be between the island of Dryna (in Molde Municipality) and the village of Brattvåg (in Haram Municipality). A second inlet is to the north, through the Julsundet strait, bound by the island of Otrøya to the west and Molde Municipality to the east. Julsundet
Julsundet is a long strait connecting the Norwegian Sea to the Romsdalsfjorden. The strait is located about west of the town of Molde in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The strait runs through Aukra Municipality, Hustadvika Municipality, and Molde Municipality. The strait flows north–south from the village of Bud (in Hustadvika Municipality) to Julneset (in Molde Municipality). It flows between the Romsdal Peninsula (on the east side) and the islands of Otrøya and Gossa (on the west side). The Frænfjorden empties into the Julsundet strait at the small island of Vågøya. Otrøy Church
Otrøy Church (; historic name: Sør-Aukra Church) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Molde Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is located in the village of Uglvik, about northeast of the village of Midsund on the island of Otrøya. It is the main church for the Midsund parish which is part of the Molde domprosti (arch-deanery) in the Diocese of Møre. The white, wooden church was built in a long church design in 1878 using plans by the architect Jacob Wilhelm Nordan. The church seats about 250 people. This was the main church of the old Sør-Aukra Municipality, and at that time it was called ''Sør-Aukra Church''. Strait
A strait is a water body connecting two seas or water basins. The surface water is, for the most part, at the same elevation on both sides and flows through the strait in both directions, even though the topography generally constricts the flow somewhat.
