Otisville is a village in Orange County, New York, United States. The population was 969 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Poughkeepsie– Newburgh– Middletown, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area as well as the larger New York– Newark–Bridgeport, NY- NJ- CT- PA Combined Statistical Area. The village of Otisville is in the town of Mount Hope, located near the western town line. The mayor of Otisville is Brian Wona. The name "Otisville" also refers to Federal Correctional Institution, Otisville and Otisville Correctional Facility, a state prison, both located nearby. There is also the station on Metro-North's Port Jervis Line. History The community was settled in 1816. The community was named after Isaac Otis, an early settler and local merchant. New York State Route 211
New York State Route 211 (NY 211) is a state highway located entirely within Orange County, New York, in the United States. The western terminus is at the intersection with US 209 located in Cuddebackville, and the eastern terminus is located at Montgomery at NY 17K, where it becomes the main thoroughfare. Through Middletown, it briefly becomes a divided highway with a maximum of five lanes in each direction (a total of ten lanes). It was also through Middletown that the famed "Miracle Mile" was born, which was the beginning of the shopping center frenzy that saw many businesses move from downtown areas of Middletown to the Route 211 Shopping Corridor. Port Jervis Line
The Port Jervis Line is a predominantly single-track commuter rail line running between Suffern and Port Jervis, in the U.S. state of New York. At Suffern, the line continues south into New Jersey as NJ Transit's Main Line. The line is operated by NJ Transit Rail Operations under a working agreement with Metro-North Railroad (MNRR). Norfolk Southern Railway (NS) shares the use of the track for local freight operations between Suffern and Port Jervis. The New York, Susquehanna and Western Railway operates over the line between Hudson Junction (east of Campbell Hall) and Port Jervis, and onward to Binghamton over the former Erie Railroad Delaware Division (now the Central New York Railroad).
