Oscar Peñas
Oscar Peñas Cambray (born August 13, 1972) is a jazz bandleader and composer-guitarist. He has been living in New York since 2007. Biography Oscar Peñas is a composer and guitarist born in Barcelona, Spain. He is known for leading small ensembles, composing, and organic fingerpicking. Peñas began his musical journey at eight, receiving training in classical guitar. He later attended the Taller de Músics and swapped to jazz while studying law at seventeen. During a visit to the USA 1997, he dropped out of law school in Barcelona and enrolled in a Professional Music program at Berklee College of Music. After graduating in 1999, he returned to his native Barcelona, Spain, where he led the Oscar Peñas Group (a.k.a. Astronautus). Ron Carter
Ronald Levin Carter (born May 4, 1937) is an American jazz double bassist. His appearances on 2,221 recording sessions make him the most-recorded jazz bassist in history. He has won three Grammy Awards, and is also a Cello, cellist who has recorded numerous times on the instrument. In addition to a solo career of more than 60 years, Carter is well-known for playing on numerous iconic Blue Note albums in the 1960s, as well as being the anchor of trumpeter Miles Davis's "Miles Davis Quintet#Second Great Quintet, Second Great Quintet" from 1963-1968. Fresh Sound, or Fresh Sound New Talent, is a jazz record label established in Barcelona, Spain, by Jordi Pujol. The label was initially founded as a reissue label. The catalog includes work by musicians both major and minor that was recorded before 1962, including Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, and Charlie Parker. Sources include Argo, Dawn, Prestige/New Jazz, RCA, Royal Roost, Riverside, and Verve. Fresh Sound has released music by obscure singers Jane Fielding, Beverly Kenney, Marilyn Moore, Lucy Ann Polk, and Helyne Stewart In the early 1990s, the label began to produce new recordings. Gil Goldstein (born November 6, 1950, in Baltimore, Maryland) is an American jazz pianist and accordionist. He has won 5 Grammy Awards and he was nominated 8 times. Biography He began studying accordion at age 5 after noticing it in The Lawrence Welk Show and stating he instantly connected with it personally, but later moved on to cello and piano at age 10. He studied at the Berklee College of Music and by 1973 was working with Pat Martino and Lee Konitz. He started with the Gil Evans Orchestra in the early 1980s and also worked with Wayne Shorter, Billy Cobham, and Jim Hall (musician), Jim Hall. He returned to accordion for an album by Michel Petrucciani and occasionally uses it on his solo albums. As an accordionist he toured with Richard Galliano in 2000 but also played piano on the tour. Francisco de Jesús Rivera Figueras (born 4 June 1948), known as Paquito D'Rivera, is a Cuban-American alto saxophonist, clarinetist and composer. He was a member of the Cuban songo band Irakere and, since the 1980s, he has established himself as a bandleader in the United States. Esperanza Emily Spalding (born October 18, 1984), sometimes professionally known with the stylized name of esperanza spalding, is an American bassist, singer, songwriter, and composer.
