Orion F.C.
Orion Football Club was a Scotland, Scottish soccer, football team that played in the city of Aberdeen between 1885 and 1903. History The club's first known match was a 2–0 defeat to Bon Accord F.C., in which the Orion club was said to have been "very good for a new club". Orion won two Northern Football League (Scotland), Northern League championships, in 1897 and 1899. The club also won the Rhodesia Cup in 1898–99 (contested among the three senior Aberdeen clubs: Aberdeen, Orion and Victoria United). Orion was one of the three clubs that merged on 14 April 1903 to form the current Aberdeen F.C.; the other two being Aberdeen F.C. (1881), Aberdeen and Victoria United F.C. (Scotland), Victoria United. Tannadice Park, officially known as The CalForth Construction Arena for sponsorship reasons, is a football stadium in Dundee, Scotland. It is the home ground of Dundee United F.C., who have played at Tannadice since the club was founded as Dundee Hibernian in 1909. The stadium has been all-seated since 1994 and has a capacity of . It is located only 200 yards (183 metres) from Dundee F.C.'s stadium, Dens Park; the two are the closest senior football grounds in the UK. The ground was previously known as Clepington Park, and was used by a number of local teams in the 19th century. The British Newspaper Archive website provides access to searchable digitized archives of British and Irish newspapers. It was launched in November 2011. History The British Library's Newspapers section was based in Colindale in north London until 2013, and is now divided between the St Pancras and Boston Spa sites. The library has an almost complete collection of British and Irish newspapers since 1840. This is partly because of the legal deposit legislation of 1869, which required newspapers to supply a copy of each edition of a newspaper to the library. London editions of national daily and Sunday newspapers are complete back to 1801. Established in 1747, it is Scotland's oldest daily newspaper, and one of the longest-running newspapers in the world. Nithsdale (), also known as Strathnith, Stranith or Stranit, is the strath or dale of the River Nith in southern Scotland. Nithsdale was one of the medieval provinces of Scotland. Somerset Park is a football stadium located in Ayr, South Ayrshire, Scotland. It has been the home of Scottish Championship team Ayr United since the club was founded in 1910. Prior to that, it was the home ground of Ayr, who merged with Ayr Parkhouse to form Ayr United. The 10,185 capacity stadium was designed by renowned football stadium architect Archibald Leitch.
