Orden Nacional Al Mérito
The National Order of Merit () is a civil order granted by the President of Ecuador. The Order, which is the second highest among the , was established on October 8, 1921, and promulgated in ' No. 337 on October 27, 1921. It was later modified by Decree No. 37 on June 28, 1937, and by Decree No. 3109 on September 26, 2002. Degrees and distinctions The National Order of Merit is presented by the President of the Republic at personal discretion or by the advice of the ministries. Applicants must have complied with the requirements of service or representation of the country in the civil, military, or police fields. It has six grades: * Grand Collar * Grand Cross * Grand Officer * Commander * Officer * Knight Ribbons * The ribbon for the collar grade is completely yellow. * The ribbon for other grades is yellow with thin blue and red stripes, one on each edge. President Of Ecuador
The president of Ecuador (), officially called the constitutional president of the Republic of Ecuador (), serves as the head of state and head of government of Ecuador. It is the highest political office in the country as the head of the executive branch of government. Alfredo Vera Arrata (Guayaquil, 1935) was the Minister of Interior of Ecuador from January 2011 to June 2011. Personal and early life Born to the politician and lawyer Alfredo Vera Vera and his wife, Baltita Arrata Macías, Alfredo Vera Arrata was born in Guayaquil as the second of four children. During his childhood he contagioned poliomyelitis and as a consequence of his illness he was unable to do sports and was forced to wear special shoes. Nevertheless, he grew up as any other child in the neighborhood. Although middle class, he comes from a prominent intellectual family. His sister is the former ballet dancer and Ecuadorian prima ballerina Noralma Vera Arrata and his uncle the writer Pedro Jorge Vera.
