Oratorio Di Santa Cecilia, Bologna
The Oratory of Saints Cecilia and Valeriano is a religious site in central Bologna, found on Via Zamboni, contiguous to the portico of the church of San Giacomo Maggiore. The oratory was built at the site of a Romanesque church commissioned by the then ruler of Bologna Giovanni II Bentivoglio. It was frescoed starting in 1505 by series of Renaissance painters associated with the Bentivoglio court, including Francesco Francia, Lorenzo Costa and Amico Aspertini. The frescoes cover the walls flanking the oratory entrance. In ten panels, divided by pilaster strips in decorated grotteschi, scenes from the life of Saint Cecilia and her husband Valerian are described. Bartolomeo Passarotti
Bartolomeo Passarotti or Passerotti (1529–1592) was an Italian painter of the mannerist period, who worked mainly in his native Bologna. His family name is also spelled Passerotti or Passarotto. Life and work From approximately 1550 to 1555, he lived in Rome, where he worked under Giacomo Barozzi da Vignola and Taddeo Zuccari. Upon returning to Bologna, he established a large studio and, from 1564 to 1565, was engaged in painting a large altarpiece for the Basilica of San Giacomo Maggiore. In his later work, he turned to Tuscan models, such as Giorgio Vasari and Prospero Fontana. His last known work was ''The Presentation of Mary in the Temple'', from 1583, now at the Pinacoteca Nazionale di Bologna. He influenced many Bolognese who would later play a role in the rise of the Baroque. The National Art Gallery of Bologna (''Pinacoteca Nazionale di Bologna'') is a museum in Bologna, Italy. It is located in the former Saint Ignatius Jesuit novitiate of the city's University district, and inside the same building that houses the Academy of Fine Arts. The museum offers a wide collection of Emilian paintings from the 13th to the 18th century and other fundamental works by artists who were in some way related to the city. Giacomo Francia
Giacomo Raibolini (1484 – 3 January 1557), also called Giacomo Francia or Jacopo Francia, was an Italian painter and engraver of the Renaissance period. Francia was born in Bologna as elder son of Francesco Raibolini (Francesco Francia), and like his father was also called ''il Francia''. His father and brother Giulio Raibolini were also artists. Francia was trained by his father in painting and goldsmithing, and acted as his assistant. In 1517, the year of his father's death, he and his brother, Giulio Francia, Giulio, assumed responsibility for the family business and together executed many church altarpieces, identifiable by the initials (I I) of their Latinized names (Iacobus and Iulius). Late in life Giacomo came under the influence of Dosso Dossi. He died in Bologna in 1567. Bartolommeo Ramenghi
Bartolomeo Ramenghi (1484–1542), also called ''Bagnacavallo'', ''il Bagnacavallo'' or ''il Baruffaldi'', was an Italian painter of the Renaissance, active in Emilia-Romagna. He received the nickname, Bagnacavallo, from the village Bagnacavallo where he was born. He studied first under Francesco Francia and Lorenzo Costa. He then proceeded to Rome, where he became a pupil of Raphael. While studying under him he worked along with many others at the decoration of the gallery in the Vatican, though it is not known which portions are his work. Giovanni Maria Chiodarolo was an Italian painter from Bologna who lived in the 15th century. Little further is known of him than that the fresco of ''Angel crowning St. Valerian and St. Cecilia'', executed about 1504–1509, in the oratory of St. Cecilia, attached to San Giacomo Maggiore, in Bologna, is by tradition assigned to him. Cesare Tamaroccio
Cesare Tamarocci or Tamarozzo or Tamaroccio was an Italian painter of the School of Bologna, active during the early 16th century, the pupil of Francesco Francia. In 1504–1506, the Chapel of Santa Cecilia in Bologna was frescoed with ten panels by the painters Aspertini, Francesco Francia, Chiodarolo, Lorenzo Costa, and Tamarocci. The ''Baptism of Valerian'' and the ''Martyrdom of Cecilia'' by Pope Urban have been generally attributed to Tamarocci, also Corrado Ricci attributed the figures at the background to Chiodarolo, and other improbably assigned it to Giacomo Francia (died 1575). The supervision of the entire series of frescoes may have been led by Costa. Cesare Baglioni (c. 1525–1590, born in Bologna) was an Italian painter of the Renaissance period. He trained under his father, then became renowned as a painter of quadratura. Tiburzio Passarotti
Tiburzio Passarotti or Passerotti (1553 – 22 November 1612) was an Italian painter, primarily of religious subjects. Biography Passarotti was born in Bologna. He was the eldest son of the painter Bartolomeo Passarotti. At the age of eighteen, he joined the "Compagnia dei pittori" and, with the help of his father, participated in creating the altarpiece at the Basilica of San Giacomo Maggiore. At that time he was already moving away from a realism (arts), naturalistic style into mannerism. Shortly after, he left home to marry Taddea Gaggi, with whom he had two children, Gasparo and Arcangelo, who also became painters. In 1580, he moved to Venice.
