Opposition (Croatia)
In Croatia, the Opposition () comprises all political parties represented in the Croatian Parliament that are not part of the Government which is supported by the parliamentary majority. The Leader of the Opposition () is an unofficial, seldom used title held by the leader of the largest party with no representatives within the government. Where one party wins outright this is usually the leader of the second largest political party in the Parliament (usually the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) or the Social Democratic Party (SDP)). The current Leader of the Opposition is Siniša Hajdaš Dončić, president of the SDP, who took up the role on 21 September 2024, after winning the elections for the head of the Social Democratic Party. 1990s Ivica Račan of the Party of Democratic Changes led the opposition in 1990 and 1991. Siniša Hajdaš Dončić
Siniša Hajdaš Dončić ( né Hajdaš; born 29 June 1974) is a Croatian politician serving as president of the center-left Social Democratic Party (SDP), and as Leader of the Opposition, since September 2024. He previously served as Minister of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure from 2012 to 2016 in the Cabinet of Zoran Milanović. Before that, he served as Prefect of the Krapina-Zagorje County in northern Croatia from 2009 to 2012. Early life and education Hajdaš Dončić was born in the small town of Zabok, Yugoslavia, in modern-day Croatia, on 29 June 1974. Croatian People's Party – Liberal Democrats
The Croatian People's Party – Liberal Democrats ( or HNS) is a social- liberal political party in Croatia. In the 11th Sabor, since 2024, a single HNS representative forms a parliamentary club together with two independent representatives. Tomislav Karamarko
Tomislav Karamarko (; born 25 May 1959) is a Croatian politician who served as First Deputy Prime Minister of Croatia from January to June 2016. He served in the Cabinet of Jadranka Kosor as Minister of the Interior from 2008 to 2011. Early life Karamarko was born in Zadar, People's Republic of Croatia, Yugoslavia, in a Croatian family. His father was one of the survivors of the Bleiburg repatriations. He attended elementary school at Kruševo near Obrovac, then moved with his family to Zagreb where he finished high school. Jadranka Kosor (; born 1 July 1953) is a Croatian politician and former journalist who served as Prime Minister of Croatia from 2009 to 2011, having taken office following the sudden resignation of her predecessor Ivo Sanader. Kosor was the List of elected or appointed female heads of government, first and so far only woman to become Prime Minister of Croatia since Independence of Croatia, independence. The Democratic Centre (; DC) was a minor Croatian center-right political party active in the 2000s. Originally established as an offshoot of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) in 2000, the party eventually merged back into HDZ in 2015. Croatian Civic Party ( or HGS) is a right-wing political party in Croatia. It was established in September 2009 by Željko Kerum, an entrepreneur and mayor of Split after he won the mayoral elections as an independent candidate. Ivan Grubišić
Ivan Grubišić (20 June 1936 – 19 March 2017) was a Croatian Roman Catholic priest, sociologist, and politician. He served in the Croatian Parliament from 2011 to 2015. Early life and education Ivan Grubišić was born in Dicmo in a poor family. He had seven brothers and sisters. His father Jure and one of the brothers were killed by the Yugoslav Partisans. His mother worked as a seamstress. After finishing elementary school, Grubišić enrolled in the Catholic gymnasium in Split, graduating in 1956. During his time in high school he played the organ. Grubišić received a degree in theology in 1962 at the Catholic Faculty of Theology of the University of Zagreb, and also a degree in sociology and philosophy at the University of Zadar in 1982.
