Ophelia
Ophelia () is a character in William Shakespeare's drama ''Hamlet'' (1599–1601). She is a young noblewoman of Denmark, the daughter of Polonius, sister of Laertes and potential wife of Prince Hamlet. Due to Hamlet's actions, Ophelia ultimately enters into a state of madness that leads to her drowning. Along with Queen Gertrude, Ophelia is one of only two female characters in the original play. Name Like most characters in ''Hamlet'', Ophelia's name is not Danish. It first appeared in Jacopo Sannazaro's 1504 poem '' Arcadia'' (as ''Ofelia''), probably derived from Ancient Greek ὠφέλεια (''ōphéleia'', "benefit"). Ophélie Anne-Laure Meilleroux (born 18 January 1984) is a French former football player. Meilleroux primarily plays as a central defender, but can also play in the defensive midfielder role. Ophélie David (née Rácz, born 6 July 1976) is a retired French freestyle skier who specialized in ski cross, an event in which she has won a world championship and four consecutive Winter X Games, as well as having previously been ranked number one in the world. David began her career as an alpine skier, competing for Hungary at the 1994 Winter Olympics in both the slalom and the combined, both of which she failed to finish. David was able to compete for Hungary because her father, János Rácz, held Hungarian citizenship and had competed for that country in basketball at the 1964 Summer Olympics. Ophélie Gaillard (born 13 June 1974) is a French cellist. Early life Gaillard was born in Paris. While studying at the Conservatoire de Paris, she obtained three first prizes in music: one in chamber music in the class of Maurice Bourgue, one in cello in the class of Philippe Muller, and one in baroque cello in the class of Christophe Coin. A recipient of a Certificate of Aptitude in cello pedagogy and a license in musicology from the Sorbonne, Gaillard has been teaching since 2000. Angelo Branduardi (born 12 February 1950) is an Italian folk music, folk/folk rock singer-songwriter and composer who scored relative success in Italy and European countries such as France, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands and Greece.
