Online Child Abuse
Online child abuse is a unique form of child abuse also known as “Cyber Molestation” due to its virtual, distanced, and anonymous nature. Such abuse may not happen face-to-face, nor does it necessarily require physical contact. However, online abuse can result in negative face-to-face consequences in the form of statutory rape, forcible sexual assault, harassment, etc. In the United Kingdom, online child abuse is recognized as a form of child abuse by the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children. Online abuse of children can occur through a variety of forms. Including, but not limited, to cyber-bullying, grooming, and sexual abuse. Such abuse requires the use of the World Wide Web or cellphones, increasing its significance in an increasingly technological world. Megan Meier Cyberbullying Prevention Act
Megan Taylor Meier (November 6, 1992 – October 17, 2006) was an American teenager who died by suicide by hanging herself three weeks before her 14th birthday. A year later, Meier's parents prompted an investigation into the matter and her suicide was attributed to cyberbullying through the social networking website MySpace. Murder Of Kacie Woody
Kacie Rene Woody (October 17, 1989December 4, 2002) was an American teenager from Holland, Arkansas, who was Catfishing, lured, abducted, raped and murdered by 47-year-old David Leslie Fuller from La Mesa, California. She had met Fuller, who claimed to be a 17-year-old named Dave Fagen living in San Diego, in a Yahoo! Messenger Christian chat room for teens. Fuller traveled to Arkansas and abducted Kacie from her home on the night of December 3, 2002. #MeToo is a social movement and Consciousness raising, awareness campaign against sexual abuse, sexual harassment and rape culture, in which women publicize their experiences of sexual abuse or sexual harassment. The USA Gymnastics sex abuse scandal relates to the sexual abuse of hundreds of gymnasts—primarily Minor (law), minors—over two decades in the United States, starting in the 1990s. Lawrence Gerard Nassar (born August 16, 1963) is an American former family medicine osteopathic physician and convicted sex offender. From 1996 to 2014, he was the team doctor of the United States women's national gymnastics team, where he used his position to exploit and sexually assault hundreds of young athletes as part of the largest sexual abuse scandal in sports history. Christopher Claus Andersen (born July 7, 1978) is an American former professional basketball player.
