One Town One Product (OTOP) – Taiwan
One Town One Product (OTOP) is a project begun in 1989 and supervised by the Small and Medium Enterprise Administration (SMEA) of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (Republic of China), Ministry of Economic Affairs of the Republic of China (ROC) to promote products from Taiwan. History In 1989, to promote local companies in Taiwan, the Small and Medium Enterprise Administration, an organization under the control of Taiwan Ministry of Economic Affairs, had adapted the concept of "One Village One Product movement, One Village One Product" from Japan and formed an expert team to research local industries and distinctive products in Taiwan. This expert team was composed of specialists from design, financing, marketing working side by side with local companies to promote excellent products from Taiwan, especially ones that are blend of tradition and the unique art of Taiwan. The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA; ) is the ministry of the Republic of China (Taiwan) responsible for formulating policy and laws for industry and trade, foreign direct investment, energy, minerals, measurement standards, intellectual property, state-owned enterprises. The ministry is a cabinet level government agency of the Executive Yuan. The executive agency promotes industrial and economic policies which allows economic activity and growth, increased employment and investments in sector which are critical to Taiwan's economy. Taiwan's main exports are electronics, computers, telecommunications equipment, industrial design services and creative industries/culture. History MOEA was initially established in June 1931 as National Economic Council by the Executive Yuan.
