''Once Within a Time'' is a 2023 American experimental fantasy comedy film written, produced, and directed by Godfrey Reggio and edited and co-directed by Jon Kane. Plot Reception Sheila O'Malley of ''RogerEbert.com ''RogerEbert.com'' is an American film review website that archives reviews written by film critic Roger Ebert for the ''Chicago Sun-Times'' and also shares other critics' reviews and essays. The website, underwritten by the ''Chicago Sun-Times ...'' gave the film three out of four stars and wrote, "Clocking in at 51 minutes, the film is all mood, all rhythm, with a kaleidoscope structure and undulating ever-shifting visuals in a constant state of flux. It's not a 'story' so much as a tone-poem collage about technology, knowledge, innocence/experience, and the potential end of the world. Godfrey Reggio
Godfrey Reggio (born 1940) is an American director of experimental documentary films. Life Reggio was born in New Orleans in 1940 to a Catholic family. He left home at age 14 to join the Catholic Christian Brotherhood. He became a monk, and spent 14 years in silence and prayer during his training. During the 1950s and 60s, Reggio worked as a social activist with Chicano street gangs with the Brotherhood in New Mexico. One of the brothers introduced him to the film ''Los Olvidados'' by the Spanish-French-Mexican surrealist filmmaker Luis Buñuel, Luis Bunuel which influenced him greatly. He also acknowledges Artavazd Peleshyan, a documentary-poet, who was a mentor and friend. Early work Reggio helped found the Institute for Regional Education in Santa Fe, New Mexico, a non-profit foundation. Rotten Tomatoes is an American review aggregator, review-aggregation website for film and television. The company was launched in August 1998 by three undergraduate students at the University of California, Berkeley: Senh Duong, Patrick Y. Lee, and Stephen Wang. Jon Kane is an American film editor, director, and DJ based in Red Hook, Brooklyn, New York. Career Kane was the editor of ''Naqoyqatsi'', the third film in the Qatsi trilogy, ''Qatsi'' trilogy directed by Godfrey Reggio and scored by Philip Glass.
