Ollie Walsh
Patrick Oliver Walsh (13 July 1937 – 9 March 1996) was an Irish hurler and hurling manager. His career included All-Ireland Championship victories as a player and later as a manager with the Kilkenny senior hurling team. After beginning his career at club level with Thomastown, Walsh joined the Kilkenny minor team as a 15-year-old in 1953 and won a Leinster Minor Championship in 1955. After a brief stint with the junior side, he was promoted to the Kilkenny senior team in 1956. From his debut, Walsh was ever-present as a goalkeeper and made a total of 42 championship appearances in a career that ended with his last game in 1972. During that time he was part of five All-Ireland Championship-winning teams – in 1957, 1963, 1967, 1969 and 1972. Thomastown (), historically known as Grennan, is a town in County Kilkenny in the province of Leinster in the south-east of Ireland. It is a market town along a stretch of the River Nore which is known for its salmon and trout, with a number of historical landmarks in the vicinity. The 1953 All-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship was the 23rd staging of the All-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1928. Tipperary entered the championship as the defending champions. On 6 September 1953 Tipperary won the championship following an 8-6 to 3-6 defeat of Dublin in the All-Ireland final. Glenmore is a Gaelic Athletic Association club situated in the south of County Kilkenny, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. The club was founded in 1888 and has achieved hurling success at county, provincial and national level. Glenmore has also provided the Kilkenny GAA, Kilkenny intercounty team with several top players. History Glenmore first distinguished itself in Kilkenny on the football field, and it was only in the 1940s that hurling started to take over. Gaelic football (; short name '')'', commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA, or football, is an Irish team sport. A form of football, it is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or palming the ball into the other team's Goal (sport), goal (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goal and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Coon GAA
Coon GAA was a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Coon, County Kilkenny, Ireland. The club was primarily concerned with the game of hurling. History Hurling had been played in the Coon area since the early 1940s when the arrival of a new schoolteacher resulted in a minor team being established. A new curate arrived in the parish in 1947 and, under his influence, Coon GAA Club was established in 1948. After losing Kilkenny JHC finals to Mooncoin in 1961 and Thomastown in 1962, Coon finally made the breakthrough by capturing the title in 1967. This victory earned promotion to the Kilkenny SHC. Coon lined out in the top flight until regrading to the newly created Kilkenny IHC in 1973. The decision was a successful one as they claimed the title that year. The Texaco Hurler of the Year was a hurling award, created in 1958, that honoured the achievements of a hurler of outstanding excellence. The award was part of the Texaco Sportstars Awards, in which Irish sportspeople from all fields were honoured.
