Olegário Manuel Bartolo Faustino Benquerença (born 18 October 1969 in Batalha, Portugal, Batalha) is a retired Portuguese association football, football Referee (association football), referee. As of 11 March 2009, he has refereed 11 matches in the UEFA Champions League, Champions League and 11 matches in the UEFA Cup (not counting qualification rounds). He also refereed in qualifiers for 2006 FIFA World Cup, UEFA Euro 2008, and 2010 FIFA World Cup. He was preselected as a referee for the 2010 FIFA World Cup and was the head referee in the quarterfinal between Uruguay national football team, Uruguay and Ghana national football team, Ghana. In this game he gave Luis Suárez a Red card (soccer), red card for blatantly blocking a shot with his hands to save what would have been the Extra time#Association football, extra-time winner. Extra Time
Overtime (OT) or extra time (ET) is an additional period of play to bring a game to a decision and avoid declaring the match a tie or draw where the scores are the same. Jean-Pascal Mignot (born 26 February 1981) is a French former professional footballer who played as defender. He made the international sporting headlines on 21 October 2010 when he was the first player in the history of the UEFA Champions League to be sent-off without ever actually taking to the field. In the sport of association football, fouls and misconduct are acts committed by players which are deemed by the referee to be unfair and are subsequently penalised.
