Old Airport Road, Singapore
Old Airport Road () is a two-way road in Singapore, connecting Dunman Road in the east to the junction with Stadium Boulevard and Mountbatten Road in the west. As its name implies, the road was the eastern boundary of the former Kallang Airport, the first purpose-built civil airport in Singapore. After the closure of the Kallang Airport, the area around Old Airport Road was redeveloped into a residential estate, known today as the "Old Kallang Airport Estate". Previously, the road ended on the western bank of the Geylang River, but was later extended eastwards to connect with Dunman Road. Old Airport Road is famous for being the location of the renowned Old Airport Road Market and Food Centre. Kallang Airport
Kallang Airport (also known as the Kallang Aerodrome, Kallang Airfield and RAF Kallang) was the first purpose-built civil international airport in Singapore. It was officially opened on 12 June 1937 and was closed in 1955, when its operations were relocated to Paya Lebar. At its greatest extent, the airport, which was situated on the eastern shore of the Kallang Basin, spanned the modern planning areas of Kallang and Geylang. The conserved remains of the airport, including its terminal building, are located wholly within Kallang. Boasting an anchorage area for seaplanes along the airport's perimeter on the Kallang Basin, the Kallang Airport was hailed as "the finest airport in the British Empire" at that time. Geylang River
Geylang River (; Simplified Chinese: 芽茏河) is a canalised river flowing from Geylang to Kallang, in the Central Region of Singapore. With the formation of the Marina Reservoir after the completion of the Marina Barrage in 2008, the river now forms part of the reservoir. Geylang River begins at Ubi as Geylang Canal, continues southwards under Eunos Road 5 and Sims Avenue, and turns westwards after Geylang Road and Lorong 40 Geylang, but flows southwards again near Guillemard Road, before turning westwards again after the junction of Old Airport Road and Dunman Road, through Mountbatten Road and Stadium Way. Mountbatten MRT Station
Mountbatten MRT station is an underground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station on the Circle line, located on the boundary of Kallang, Geylang and Marine Parade, Singapore. Serving the Mountbatten subzone, the area and the station is named after British Admiral Lord Louis Mountbatten, the Supreme Allied Commander of the South East Asia Command who accepted the Japanese surrender of Singapore during the Second World War. Road names in Singapore come under the purview of the Street and Building Names Board of the Urban Redevelopment Authority. In 1967, the Advisory Committee on the Naming of Roads and Streets was formed to name roads in Singapore. The committee was eventually renamed the Street and Building Names Board (SBNB) in 2003.
