Ohio Bobcats Football
The Ohio Bobcats football team is a major intercollegiate varsity sports program of Ohio University. The team represents the university as the senior member of the Mid-American Conference (MAC), playing at the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision level. The Ohio Bobcats, Bobcats have played their home games in Peden Stadium in Athens, Ohio since 1929. Ohio's first football game is reported in 1894, an 8–0 loss to Marietta College. Since then, the Bobcats have posted an over 500 wins over their 125-year existence and over 200 wins in their 72 years in MAC games. The Bobcats have won six MAC championships, in 1953, 1960, 1963, 1967, 1968, and 2024, and five MAC East Division championships, in 2006, 2009, 2011, 2016, and 2022. Brian Smith (American Football Coach, Born 1980)
Brian Smith (born August 9, 1980) is an American college football coach who is currently the head coach, offensive coordinator, and running backs coach at Ohio University. He was previously the associate head coach and offensive coordinator at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, University of Hawaii, where he also played college football. Playing career Smith played Center (gridiron football), center at Hawaii Rainbow Warriors football, Hawaii from 1998 to 2001. He was also the team's starting long snapper in that same time duration. He was the college roommate of Nick Rolovich, and the two would practice long snaps in their apartment hallway. Battle Of The Bricks
The Battle of the Bricks is the name given to the Miami–Ohio football rivalry. It is a college football rivalry between the Miami RedHawks of Miami University and the Ohio Bobcats of Ohio University, the two oldest universities in the state of Ohio. Both schools are members of the Mid-American Conference. Through the 2024 season, the two teams have met 101 times on the football field, with Miami holding a 56–43–2 edge in the all-time series. 1968 Tangerine Bowl
The 1968 Tangerine Bowl was held on December 27, 1968, at the Tangerine Bowl stadium in Orlando, Florida. The Richmond Spiders of the Southern Conference defeated the Ohio Bobcats of the Mid-American Conference by a score of 49–42. The Tangerine Bowl is the former name of what is now called the Citrus Bowl. Heading into the game, Ohio University finished their regular season slate with a perfect 10–0–0 record. The Richmond Spiders are a college football team representing the University of Richmond in Richmond, Virginia. Richmond was the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision champion for the 2008 season. The West Texas A&M Buffaloes football program is the intercollegiate American football team for the West Texas A&M University located in the U.S. state of Texas. The team competes in Division II and are members of the Lone Star Conference. The school's first football team was fielded in 1910. Bill Hess
William R. Hess (February 5, 1923 – June 10, 1978) was an American college football coach. He served as the head football coach at Ohio University from 1958 to 1977. In his tenure as head coach for the Ohio Bobcats football team, Hess compiled a 108–91–4 record. He ranked second on Ohio's all-time victories list behind Hall of Famer Don Peden at the time of his retirement, though he has since been passed by Frank Solich. Hess's teams won four Mid-American Conference (MAC) championships (1960, 1963, 1967, and 1968) and won a National Small College Championship in 1960 after having an undefeated season. Hess also led the Bobcats to two bowl games, losing 15–14 to West Texas State in the 1962 Sun Bowl and losing 49–42 to Richmond in the 1968 Tangerine Bowl.
