The Radio Television of Niger (RTN), formerly known as Office of Radio and Television of Niger (), or ORTN for short, is the state broadcaster of the West African nation of Niger. RTN operates the Télé Sahel terrestrial television station, Voix du Sahel, Radio Voix du Sahel radio network, and the satellite station (2001). Télé Sahel
Télé Sahel is the national broadcaster of the West African state of Niger, it was founded in 1964 as an educational channel under the name Télé-Niger, it became a national general channel, broadcasting in color, on April 6, 1979. Owned and operated by the government Office of Radio and Television of Niger, which also operates Voix du Sahel, Radio Voix du Sahel and the satellite station, Télé Sahel provides news and other programs in French and several local languages. Its stations transmit to all urban centres. Its current Director General is Moussa Saley since 2005. The state ORTN network depends financially on the government, partly through an addition to electricity bills and partly through direct subsidy. Voix Du Sahel
La Voix du Sahel (English: "Voice of the Sahel") is the national radio station of Niger, owned by the Nigerien government, operating on 91.3 MHz. Based in Niamey, the radio station was established and went on air on 31 July, 1958 as ''Radio Niger'' but adopted its current name in 1974. Abdourahamane Tchiani (; born early 1960s) is a Nigerien military officer who has served as the 11th president of Niger since 2025 and the president of the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland, the military junta of Niger, since 2023. Having previously served as the Chief of the Nigerien Presidential guard (2011–2023), he played a key role in the 2023 Nigerien coup d'état by detaining President Mohamed Bazoum. His coup triggered the Nigerien crisis, which ended in 2024. Early life Tchiani was born in 1960, 1961, or 1964.
