Off!
Off! (stylized as OFF!) was an American hardcore punk supergroup, formed in Los Angeles, California in late 2009 by Circle Jerks/ Black Flag singer Keith Morris, Burning Brides frontman Dimitri Coats, Redd Kross bassist Steven Shane McDonald, and Rocket From The Crypt/ Hot Snakes drummer Mario Rubalcaba. In 2021, it was announced that the line-up had changed, with McDonald and Rubalcaba replaced by Autry Fulbright II and Justin Brown, respectively. The band were known for playing short, intense punk songs, with ''Pitchfork'' describing the band as "a vital blast of classic hardcore." History The idea to form the band came after Coats had worked as producer on a prospective Circle Jerks album which ultimately fell apart. Keith Morris
Keith Morris (born September 18, 1955) is an American singer and songwriter known for his role as frontman of the hardcore punk bands Black Flag, Circle Jerks, and Off!. Born and raised in Hermosa Beach, California, he formed Black Flag at the age of 21 with guitarist Greg Ginn and performed on the band's 1979 debut EP ''Nervous Breakdown''. Shortly after leaving Black Flag in 1979, he formed the Circle Jerks with guitarist Greg Hetson; the band released seven albums between 1980 and 1995 and have broken up and reformed on numerous occasions. In 2009 Morris formed the supergroup Off! with guitarist Dimitri Coats, bassist Steven Shane McDonald, and drummer Mario Rubalcaba. ''Wasted Years'' is the second studio album by the band Off! It was released on April 8, 2014 by Vice Records. As with their previous albums, it features 16 tracks and cover art by Raymond Pettibon. The band recorded 19 songs at their rehearsal space to analog tape, leaving three off of the album. "In Your Arms" appears as a digital bonus track and a 7", released on Record Store Day 2014, features "Learn to Obey" backed by "I See Through You." Mario Rubalcaba
Mario Rubalcaba (also known by the pseudonym Ruby Mars) is an American drummer from San Diego, notable as a member of numerous rock bands including Clikatat Ikatowi, Thingy, Rocket from the Crypt, Hot Snakes, Earthless, the Sultans, and Off! He has also played on albums by The Black Heart Procession and Pinback and was formerly a professional skateboarder. Skateboarding career In the late 1980s and early 1990s Rubalcaba was a professional skateboarder, skating for Team Alva. Though he no longer skates professionally, he does work at Black Box, a skateboarding distribution company and skate park in San Diego. Musical career Rubalcaba's drumming career began in 1990 with the San Diego post-hardcore band 411. Dimitri Coats
Dimitri Coats is an American musician, songwriter, producer, filmmaker, and actor. Music Coats fronted the rock band Burning Brides and is the guitarist in the hardcore punk band Off!. The Brides released four critically acclaimed albums and toured with a variety of well-known acts ranging from The White Stripes and My Morning Jacket to Mastodon and Queens of The Stone Age. Dimitri was the songwriter and producer of the band which he formed with bass player Melanie Campbell in 1999, a few years after he dropped out of the Juilliard School's acting program. Steven Shane McDonald (born May 24, 1967) is an American rock musician, best known as the bass guitarist in the Los Angeles alternative rock/power pop band Redd Kross. He is a founding member of the hardcore punk band OFF! – serving as a member from 2009 to 2021 – as well as bassist for Melvins since 2015. McDonald has appeared in numerous film projects with his older brother Jeff McDonald, including the 1984 film '' Desperate Teenage Lovedolls'' and its sequel '' Lovedolls Superstar''; and the 1990 film '' Spirit of '76''. Raymond Pettibon (born Raymond Ginn, June 16, 1957) is an American artist who lives and works in New York City. Pettibon came to prominence in the early 1980s in the southern California punk rock scene, creating posters and album art mainly for groups on SST Records, owned and operated by his older brother, Greg Ginn. He has subsequently become widely recognized in the fine art world for using American iconography variously pulled from literature, art history, philosophy, and religion to politics, sport, and sexuality. Rocket from the Crypt is an American punk rock band from San Diego, California, originally active from 1990 to 2005, then active during 2011 and again from 2013 to the present. The band gained critical praise and the attention of major record labels after the release of their 1992 album '' Circa: Now!'', leading to a recording contract with Interscope Records.
