Odyssey is the second studio album by British jazz saxophonist Nubya Garcia, released on 20 September 2024 by Concord Jazz. The album blends orchestral arrangements with R&B, jazz, and dub influences. Background and recording Garcia collaborated with producer Kwes on ''Odyssey''. Concord Jazz is a record company and label founded in 1973 by Carl Jefferson, the former owner of Jefferson Motors Lincoln Mercury dealership in Concord, California. The label was named after the city in the East San Francisco Bay area, and the jazz festival which Jefferson also began. Kwes
Kwesi Sey, professionally known as Kwes (; sometimes stylised as ''kwes'', ''kwes.'', ''Kwes.'' or '' =o'' ) is a British music producer, composer and artist from London, England. Kwes is also currently signed to Warp as a solo artist and released his debut album, '' ilp'', in October 2013. He has since gone on to produce music for the likes of Damon Albarn, Bobby Womack, Solange Knowles, Sampha, Loyle Carner, Black Coffee, Nubya Garcia, Mica Levi, Tirzah, Lucy Rose and numerous others. He also composed his debut feature length score for 2023 British rom-com film Rye Lane, directed by Raine Allen-Miller. It won a BIFA in 2023 for Best Original Music. Nubya Nyasha Garcia (born 1991) is a British jazz musician, Saxophone, saxophonist, composer and bandleader. Early life and education Garcia was born in 1991 in Camden Town, London, the youngest of four siblings, to a Guyanese people, Guyanese mother, a former Civil service, civil servant, and a British Trinidadian Filmmaking, filmmaker father. Garcia followed her three older siblings to the local Camden Saturday Music Centre at the age of five, where she first learned the violin and later played the viola in the London Schools Symphony Orchestra (LSSO). Garcia's upbringing by her stepdad, a Brass instrument, brass player, and music loving mother, coupled with the music activities at Camden School for Girls, meant she was exposed to multiple genres of music. Esperanza Emily Spalding (born October 18, 1984), sometimes professionally known with the stylized name of esperanza spalding, is an American bassist, singer, songwriter, and composer. Her accolades include five Grammy Awards, a Boston Music Awards, Boston Music Award, a Soul Train Music Awards, Soul Train Music Award, and two honorary doctorates: one from her alma mater Berklee College of Music and one from the California Institute of the Arts, California Institute of the Arts (CalArts). Georgia Anne Muldrow (born 1983) is an American soul and hip hop singer, producer, and songwriter from Los Angeles. In 2008, she co-founded the SomeOthaShip Connect record label with fellow artist and former husband Dudley Perkins. Life and career Muldrow grew up in a musical environment of her session musician parents, jazz guitarist Ronald Muldrow and singer Rickie Byars. In 2006, Muldrow released the debut EP, ''Worthnothings'', on Stones Throw Records. Her first album, ''Olesi: Fragments of an Earth'', was released on the label in that year. Chineke! Orchestra () is a British orchestra, the first professional orchestra in Europe to be made up of majority Black & ethnically diverse musicians. The word Chineke derives from the Igbo language meaning "God". The orchestra was founded by musician Chi-chi Nwanoku CBE and their debut concert was in 2015 at Queen Elizabeth Hall in London. Background Nwanoku, the orchestra's founder, coined its name from the word " Chi" in the Igbo language, which refers to "the god of creation of all good things", or "the spirit of creation". She was inspired by the use of the term in the novel ''Things Fall Apart'' by Chinua Achebe.
