Odd Fellows Hall (Big Horn, Wyoming)
The Odd Fellows Hall, also known as Big Horn Odd Fellows Hall, is located in Big Horn, Wyoming, and was built in 1894. The hall was originally used by Big Horn's chapter of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and was later used by the Odd Fellows' sister organization, the Rebekahs. The organizations hosted community events until the Odd Fellows merged with another chapter in 1949 and the Rebekahs disbanded in 1970; the groups mainly folded because they lacked the resources to maintain their building. The building features a false front, a common design feature in buildings in Western boom towns; it is one of three remaining historic buildings in Big Horn with a false front. Big Horn, Wyoming
Big Horn is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Sheridan County, Wyoming, Sheridan County, Wyoming, United States. The population was 457 at the United States Census, 2020, 2020 census. History Big Horn is along the valley of Little Goose Creek. From 1866 to 1868, the military cutoff route of the Bozeman Trail crossed Little Goose Creek, where Big Horn was later located. The trail was used by travelers going to gold fields in Montana, but was plagued by Lakota attacks under Red Cloud. Fort Phil Kearny was established on Piney Creek, but continued harassment by the Lakota led to its abandonment and the withdrawal of the U.S. Army from the Powder River Country under the Fort Laramie Treaty (1868), Fort Laramie Treaty of 1868. The Daughters of Rebekah, also known as the Rebekahs and the International Association of Rebekah Assemblies, is an international service-oriented organization and a branch of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. As the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, the Rebekahs began as an all-white organization, typical at the time, that purported to promote ethic of reciprocity, reciprocity and charity (virtue), charity, and drew inspiration from Judeo-Christian ethics.
