Octavio Cortázar
Octavio Cortázar Jiménez (19 January 1935 – 27 February 2008) was a Cuban film director and screenwriter. He directed twelve films between 1961 and 2005. His 1977 film ''The Teacher (1977 film), The Teacher'' was entered into the 28th Berlin International Film Festival, where it won the Silver Bear, Silver Bear for an outstanding artistic contribution. His 1981 film ''Guardafronteras'' was entered into the 12th Moscow International Film Festival. Cortázar died of a heart attack while visiting Madrid on 27 February 2008 at the age of 73. For The First Time (1967 Film)
''For the First Time'' () is a 1967 Cuban documentary short film. It chronicles the events of April 12, 1967 in the village of Los Munos, in the Baracoa municipality of Cuba, where a mobile cinema truck shows the villagers moving pictures for the first time. Overview The entire film was shot on April 12, 1967 in the village itself, and shows the cinema truck traveling to the village, as well as interviews with both the projectionists and several villagers. The film shown was the Chaplin feature, '' Modern Times'', on a portable 16 mm projector in the back of the truck. As it happened, the film screening was well received. The 10-minute film was made available in recent years for an international audience with it being included as a special feature in a MK2 DVD release of ''Modern Times'', distributed by Warner Brothers, as well as on the Criterion Collection release. The Berlin International Film Festival (), usually called the Berlinale (), is an annual film festival held in Berlin, Germany. 28th Berlin International Film Festival
The 28th annual Berlin International Film Festival was held from 22 February to 5 March 1978. Director Wolf Donner successfully managed to shift the festival's date from June to February, a change which has remained ever since. This was the first year the festival was held in February. The festival opened with '' Opening Night'' by John Cassavetes and closed with Steven Spielberg's out of competition film ''Close Encounters of the Third Kind''. The jury awarded the Golden Bear to Spain for its contribution to the festival. ''The Teacher'' () is a 1977 Cuban drama film directed by Octavio Cortázar. The film, set in the early years of the Cuban Revolution, tells the story of a young urban teacher going to poor, rural areas to teach peasants how to read and write. He must overcome the initial resistance of some inhabitants due to his youth, get used to a totally unknown environment and confront the bandits who support the mercenary invasion.
