Oakhurst, Georgia
Oakhurst is a historic neighborhood in the southwest corner of Decatur, Georgia, adjacent to the eastern edge of Atlanta, Georgia. It is located south of downtown Decatur and approximately six miles east of downtown Atlanta. Oakhurst primarily consists of residences built in the early 20th century and neighborhood businesses. It is roughly bounded by the City of Atlanta's Kirkwood neighborhood (west of Winter Ave.) on the west; the City of Atlanta's East Lake neighborhood (Northern St. & Pharr Rd.) on the south; Decatur's West College Ave. (and the railroad tracks paralleling West College Avenue) on the north; and Decatur's South McDonough St. on the east. Memorial Drive (Atlanta)
Memorial Drive is a long road that travels from Stone Mountain to Downtown Atlanta in the U.S. state of Georgia. In 2000, a part of Memorial Drive was named " Cynthia McKinney Parkway," but the naming has come under scrutiny since her primary defeat in 2006. Memorial Drive began as East Fair Street, one of the first streets in Atlanta. It was named for the 19th century fairgrounds in Grant Park, which appeared on maps as early as the 1860s. East Fair Street led from the downtown commercial area to residential neighborhoods. Suburban growth in Atlanta and DeKalb County in the late 1890s led to the creation and expansion of neighborhoods such as Grant Park and Edgewood. East Lake (MARTA Station)
East Lake is an at-grade subway station in Atlanta and Decatur, Georgia, serving the Blue Line of the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) rail system. It has a track in each direction serving an island platform. When the station entered service on June 30, 1979, the opening ceremony took place in the south parking lot. This station is located mainly in the neighborhood of Kirkwood, but is named after East Lake Boulevard in neighboring Decatur, into which the east end of the station extends. Atlanta Consolidated Street Railway
The Atlanta Consolidated Street Railway was an attempt by Joel Hurt to take over the various Atlanta streetcar systems. Incorporated in May 1891, Hurt began negotiations to consolidate widely overlapping competing companies. On September 21, 1891, the titles of the following were conveyed to the Consolidated: * Atlanta Street Railway owned by Edward C.
