Oak Park is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, north of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Merri-bek local government area. Oak Park recorded a population of 6,714 at the 2021 census. Oak Park is bounded by New Road, Victoria Street, Kiama Street and Charlotte Street in the north, Watt Avenue and Pascoe Vale Road in the east, Moonee Ponds Creek in the west and Main Street in the south. History Oak Park was formed from part of the John Pascoe Fawkner estate. The name of the area derived from the name chosen by the purchasers of the Fawkner Estate. Oak Park was relatively slowly developed, as the area did not have a railway station until housing development had commenced in the 1950s. Through the 1950s and 1960s, development of the area proceeded quickly, with the post office opening on 2 April 1957. Oak Park railway station is a commuter railway station on the Craigieburn line, part of the Melbourne railway network. It serves the northern suburb of Oak Park in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Oak Park station is a ground-level unstaffed station, featuring two side platforms. It opened on 13 August 1956. History Oak Park station opened on 13 August 1956, with the railway line past the site of the station originally opening in 1872, as part of the North East line to School House Lane. Like the suburb itself, the station was named after a property that was renamed after it was purchased from the widow of John Pascoe Fawkner in 1879. Fawkner originally purchased 316 hectares of land, including the area now known as Oak Park, in 1839. Lower Plenty is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 16 km north-east from Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Banyule local government area. Lower Plenty recorded a population of 3,962 at the 2021 census. Lower Plenty, in earlier times part of Eltham, almost certainly got its name from the Lower Plenty Toll Bridge, built in 1860 to collect tolls across the Plenty River. This bluestone bridge still stands as part of the Lower Plenty Trail. A report of a court case, in The Argus newspaper, dated 1 May 1879, reveals two lads, Corkhill and Hodgson, "broke the windows of the old tollhouse, Lower Plenty bridge", some 19 years after the bridge was built. Glenroy Railway Station
Glenroy railway station is a commuter railway station located in the northern suburb of Glenroy in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The station opened on 24 January 1887, with the former ground level station closed and demolished in April 2022 and the current lowered rail trench station provided in May 2022 by the Level Crossing Removal Project. Glenroy is a below ground premium station, consisting of two side platforms connected by staircases, lifts and a ground level concourse. The station fully complies with the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and is accessible as there is a lift connecting to the ground level concourse and the station platforms on either side. Melbourne's bus network is a major transportation system in Australia, comprising around 400 bus routes. The bus network is run by private companies under contract to Public Transport Victoria. Buses in Melbourne use the Myki ticketing system, with the exception of SkyBus services. The Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) is the largest senior community Australian rules football competition in Victoria, Australia, Victoria.
