Oak Lawn is a neighborhood in Dallas, Texas (United States), defined in Dallas City Ordinance 21859 as Planned Development District No. 193, the Oak Lawn Special Purpose District. The unofficial boundaries are Turtle Creek Boulevard, Central Expressway, the City of Highland Park, Inwood Road, and Harry Hines Boulevard. It is over in area. Officially it is bounded by the City of Highland Park, the North Central Expressway, Stemmons Freeway, Woodall Rodgers Freeway, and other roads. The district is within the boundary defined by the City of Dallas law, excluding any existing planned development districts within. About Oak Lawn is one of the wealthier areas of metropolitan Dallas, with the population consisting mainly of urban professionals. The Grand Prairie Armed Forces Reserve Complex or Grand Prairie AFRC (formerly Naval Air Station Dallas or Hensley Field) is a former United States Navy Naval Air Station located on Mountain Creek Lake in southwest Dallas. The installation was established as an Army aviation center, and eventually became home to aviation assets from all the military services. Perry Heights is a historical neighborhood in the Oak Lawn area of Dallas, Texas (USA). As one of the last remaining single-family neighborhoods in the Dallas uptown area, Perry Heights consists of three (Vandelia, Hall, and Rawlins) by three streets (Herschel, Prescott, and Hawthorne) of residential real estate with neighborhood restaurants and bars within walking distance. The neighborhood consists of 115 single-family homes. Maple Lawn, or Maple for short is an area in Dallas, Texas, United States, which is home to government owned section 8 projects. The area has long been home to a largely African American and Hispanic community. Turtle Creek is a neighborhood running along Turtle Creek and adjacent Turtle Creek Boulevard in the Oak Lawn area of Dallas, Texas (USA). Turtle Creek has also become an adopted nickname for the Oak Lawn neighborhood, though never an official one. The nickname also sometimes applies to a spillover of the Uptown area, which has become the official moniker for the area between downtown Dallas and Oak Lawn beginning in the 1980s.
