Oak Grove is the parish seat of West Carroll Parish in northeastern Louisiana, United States. The population was 1,441 at the 2020 United States census. Geography Louisiana Highway 2 forms Main Street in Oak Grove. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.7 square miles (4.5 km), of which 1.7 square miles (4.4 km) is land and 0.04 square mile (0.1 km) (1.15%) is water. Demographics As of the 2020 United States census, there were 1,441 people, 652 households, and 384 families residing in the town. Arts and culture The Fiske Theatre, built in 1928, is the oldest operating movie theatre in northeast Louisiana and the last remaining single-screen facility. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. West Carroll Parish () is a parish located in the northeastern part of the U.S. state of Louisiana. As of the 2020 census, the population was 9,751. The parish seat is Oak Grove. The parish was founded in 1877, when Carroll Parish was divided. The area of cotton culture in Louisiana in parishes along this part of the Mississippi River was also referred to as the Natchez District. It included the parishes of East Carroll (after the split in 1877), Concordia, Madison and Tensas. History Before being divided, Carroll Parish was named for Charles Carroll of Carrollton, Maryland, the only Roman Catholic signer of the Declaration of Independence and the last surviving signer of the document. It was organized by European Americans after the Louisiana Purchase. West Carroll Parish has a long history of inhabitants who predated the formation of the United States by thousands of years. KWCL-FM
KWCL-FM (96.7 MHz) is an American radio station licensed by the FCC to serve Oak Grove, Louisiana, in West Carroll Parish in the northeastern portion of the state. The license is assigned to Holland Broadcasting, LLC, a division of Holland Entertainment. History On February 23, 1957, Carroll Broadcasting Company applied to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for a new radio station in Oak Grove. It was awarded 1280 kHz as a 500-watt, daytime-only operation on April 16, 1958. ( Guide to reading History Cards) KWCL, named for its parish, began broadcasting on August 15, 1958. Irene Robinson's husband, "Poison" Ivy Robinson, co-owned the station with David Blossman from 1969 to 1980.
