OOXML
Office Open XML (also informally known as OOXML) is a zipped, XML-based file format developed by Microsoft for representing spreadsheets, charts, presentations and word processing documents. Ecma International standardized the initial version as ECMA-376. ISO and IEC standardized later versions as ISO/IEC 29500. Microsoft Office 2010 provides read support for ECMA-376, full support for ISO/IEC 29500 Transitional, and read support for ISO/IEC 29500 Strict. Microsoft Office 2013 and later fully support ISO/IEC 29500 Strict, but do not use it as the default file format because of backwards compatibility concerns. The Open Document Format for Office Applications (ODF), also known as OpenDocument, standardized as ISO 26300, is an open file format for word processor, word processing documents, spreadsheets, Presentation program, presentations and graphics and using Zip (file format), ZIP-compressed XML files. Document File Format
A document file format is a Text file, text or binary file format for storing documents on a computer storage, storage media, especially for use by computers. There currently exists a multitude of incompatible document file formats. Examples of XML-based open format, open standards are DocBook, XHTML, and, more recently, the International Organization for Standardization, ISO/International Electrotechnical Commission, IEC standards OpenDocument (ISO 26300:2006) and Office Open XML (ISO 29500:2008).
