Northern Territory Cricket, formally the Northern Territory Cricket Association, is the governing body for cricket in the Northern Territory of Australia. Cricket in the Northern Territory has produced state contracted players which include Kane Richardson and Tom Andrews who are both contracted to the South Australia Redbacks. Affiliations The association is affiliated with Cricket Australia. The Alice Springs Cricket Association is a member association of Northern Territory Cricket. Aswell as Darwin and District Cricket, Katherine District Cricket and Tennant Creek Cricket Association. Competitions The association supports the management of the Darwin and Districts cricket, Alice Springs, Tennant Creek and Katherine cricket competitions. The annual Imparja Cup Indigenous cricket tournament is hosted by Northern Territory Cricket. Cricket Australia (CA), formerly known as the Australian Cricket Board (ACB), is the governing body for professional and amateur cricket in Australia. It was originally formed in 1905 as the 'Australian Board of Control for International Cricket'. It is incorporated as an Australian Public Company, limited by guarantee. Marrara Oval, currently branded TIO Stadium under a naming rights agreement (and previously also known as Football Park), is a sports ground in Darwin, the capital of Australia's Northern Territory. The ground primarily hosts Australian rules football, cricket, and rugby league. Marrara Oval was opened in 1991. It has a capacity of 12,500 people, making it the largest stadium in the Northern Territory. However, the ground has a record attendance of 17,500, set in 2003 for a football game featuring the Indigenous All-Stars. Marrara is a northern suburb of the city of Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia. History Shown on Goyder's original surveys of Darwin in 1869 was the swamp between the suburb and the Darwin International Airport, but like Leanyer, the name is believed to be derived from an Aboriginal name for the area. Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Kane Richardson
Kane William Richardson (born 12 February 1991) is an Australian international cricketer who plays domestic cricket for the Melbourne Renegades. Since 2013, Richardson has played international cricket for Australia in both One Day Internationals and Twenty20 Internationals, and as a teenager, he played for Australia's Under-19 team, winning the 2010 Under-19 Cricket World Cup with them. Thomas David Andrews (born 7 October 1994) is an Australian cricketer. He is an all-rounder who bats left-handed and bowls slow left-arm orthodox deliveries. He plays for Tasmania, having previously played for South Australia, the Adelaide Strikers and the Melbourne Renegades. Youth career Born in Darwin, Northern Territory, Andrews started his cricket career playing for the Darwin Eagles. Imparja Cup
The Imparja Cup and National Indigenous Cricket Championships are Australian cricket tournaments based in Alice Springs, Northern Territory. The tournaments are contested annually by teams of Indigenous Australian cricketers. History The Imparja Cup tournament has its origins in an annual match started in 1994 between Alice Springs and Tennant Creek by Shane and Mervyn Franey from Alice Springs and Ross Williams from Tennant Creek. By 1998 Northern Territory Cricket had become involved in organising the tournament and in 2001 Cricket Australia turned the tournament into a national competition.
