Northern Peninsula Airport is an airport serving Bamaga, a town near the northern tip of the Cape York Peninsula and is located southeast of Injinoo in Queensland, Australia. The airport is operated by the Northern Peninsula Area Regional Council. It was known as Bamaga Airport or Bamaga/Injinoo Airport and had the ICAO code YBAM. Data current as of October 2006. Facilities The airport resides at an elevation of above sea level. It has one runway designated 13/31 with an asphalt surface measuring . History Built in late 1942 and known as Jacky Jacky Field, the airfield was renamed Higgins Field in 1943 in honour of Flight Lieutenant Brian Hartley Higgins. Operated as a dispersal field for Horn Island. Northern Peninsula Area Region
The Northern Peninsula Area Region is a local government area in Far North Queensland, Australia, covering areas on the northwestern coast of Cape York Peninsula. It was created in March 2008 out of three Aboriginal Shires and two autonomous Island Councils during a period of statewide local government reform. In June 2018, the area had a population of 3,069.
