Nockebybanan
Nockebybanan is a tram line between Nockeby and Alvik in the western suburbs of Stockholm, Sweden. The long line is part of the Storstockholms Lokaltrafik public transport network, and connects with the Stockholm metro and Tvärbanan tram at Alvik metro station. The Nockebybanan, also known as line 12, is operated by Arriva. History The first part of the current line to Alléparken was opened in 1914, following the construction of a pontoon bridge across Tranebergssund. The line was then gradually extended westwards, reaching the current terminus at Nockeby in 1929. To the east, the line ran to Tegelbacken in central Stockholm. The pontoon bridge was replaced in 1934 with the new Tranebergsbron. Planning for a Metro system started around this time, and in 1944 the Ängbybanan route was built from Alvik to Åkeshov (and later Islandstorget), operated initially with trams but designed as a grade-separated route for later conversion. Alvik Metro Station
Alvik metro station is a station on the Green line of the Stockholm metro, and on the Tvärbanan and Nockebybanan lines of Stockholm tramways. It is located on the border between the districts of Traneberg and Alvik, which are part of the borough of Bromma in the west of the city of Stockholm. The station is one of the intermediate termini along the northern section of the Green line, with line 18 trains normally terminating, and is also the terminus of the Nockebybanan. Alvik station has tracks on two levels, both above ground. The higher level has two island platforms aligned east-west and serving four tracks. The outer pair of tracks are through tracks used by metro trains, whilst the inner pair of tracks are used to terminate Nockebybanan trams, thus providing cross-platform interchange between the Nockebybanan and metro. Tvärbanan
Tvärbanan is a light-rail line in Stockholm, Sweden. Its name literally translates to ''The transverse line'', as it operates crosswise to the otherwise radial metro and commuter rail lines of Stockholm. It links together several transit lines through its connections with the southern, western and northern subway branches of the Stockholm Metro (''Tunnelbana'') as well as three branches of the Stockholm commuter rail (''Pendeltåg''). The possibility to travel between southern, western and northern greater Stockholm without having to enter the city centre significantly reduces the number of transit passengers, also reducing the number of trains having to pass through the Old Town bottleneck during peak hours. Storstockholms Lokaltrafik, or more formally Aktiebolaget Storstockholms Lokaltrafik (Greater Stockholm Local Transit Company), is the organisation running all of the land based public transport systems in Stockholm County. It was previously known as Stockholms Lokaltrafik and is commonly referred to as SL. History SL has its origins in AB Stockholms Spårvägar (SS), a city-owned public transit company which started in 1915 by the City of Stockholm with the aim to deprivatize the two separate private tramway networks into one more efficient company. Cross-platform Interchange
A cross-platform interchange is a type of interchange between different lines at a metro (or other railway) station. The term originates with the London Underground; such layouts exist in other networks but are not commonly so named. In the United States, it is often referred to as a cross-platform transfer. This configuration occurs at a station with island platforms, with a single platform in between the tracks allocated to two directions of travel, or two side platforms between the tracks, connected by level corridors. The benefit of this design is that passengers do not need to use stairs to another platform level for transfer.
