Nina Antonia
Nina Antonia (born Nina Antonia Benjamin in 1960) is an English author who has chronicled the lives and misadventures of Johnny Thunders, the New York Dolls, Peter Perrett, and the elusive Brett Smiley. Antonia's later work has explored decadent and supernatural themes, which led to a novel, ''The Greenwood Faun'', as well as the editorship of "''Incurable"- The Haunted Writings of Lionel Johnson, the Decadent Era’s Dark Angel''. Background Antonia is featured in the Sundance nominated documentary ''New York Doll'' alongside Morrissey, Mick Jones and Iggy Pop and can be seen in Danny Garcia (filmmaker), Danny Garcia's poignant documentary ''Looking For Johnny''. Nina also appears in Garcia's 2019 documentary, ''Stiv – No Compromise, No Regrets'' about Stiv Bators. Johnny Thunders
John Anthony Genzale (July 15, 1952 – April 23, 1991), known professionally as Johnny Thunders, was an American guitarist, singer and songwriter. He came to prominence in the early 1970s as a member of the New York Dolls. He later played with the Heartbreakers and as a solo artist. Early life and career Thunders was born John Anthony Genzale in Queens, New York, the second child of Josephine Genzale (née Nicoletti, 1923–1999), who was of Italian descent, and Emil Genzale (1923–1982), who was of Italian, Russian-Jewish, and German-Jewish ancestry. Thunders had an older sister, Mariann (1946–2009). He first lived in East Elmhurst, Queens, East Elmhurst and then Jackson Heights, Queens, Jackson Heights. New York Doll
''New York Doll'' is a documentary based on the life of former New York Dolls member Arthur Kane. It was nominated for both a Satellite Award and a Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival, where it premiered in 2005. Synopsis The film details the history of both the New York Dolls and one of its members, Arthur "Killer" Kane. The film narrates the history of the band from its formation in 1972, through its drug problems and the deaths of several of its members. The central focus of the film, however, is Arthur's life after conversion to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints after struggles with alcoholism, drug abuse, an attempt at suicide, and a 1992 beating with a baseball bat (falsely rumored to be related to the Rodney King riots happening at the same time) that left him near death and needing a long recovery.
