Night Rains
''Night Rains'' is the eleventh studio album by American singer-songwriter Janis Ian, originally released in 1979 on Columbia Records. The commercial failure of her previous self-titled album and its accompanying singles led Columbia to demand Ian make a major change of direction for ''Night Rains'' to restore her commercial fortunes. She initially focused on writing film music for '' Foxes'' and ''The Bell Jar'', and then adopted a fully commercial pop sound, collaborating with Albert Hammond of " It Never Rains in Southern California" fame on one song, and with superstar disco producer Giorgio Moroder on two tracks including the ''Foxes'' theme. Janis Ian
Janis Ian (born Janis Eddy Fink; April 7, 1951) is an American singer-songwriter who was most commercially successful in the 1960s and 1970s. Her signature songs are the 1966/67 hit "Society's Child, Society's Child (Baby I've Been Thinking)" and the 1975 Top Ten single "At Seventeen", from her LP ''Between the Lines (Janis Ian album), Between the Lines'', which in September 1975 reached no. 1 on the ''Billboard (magazine), Billboard'' album chart. Born in Farmingdale, New Jersey, Ian entered the American folk music scene while still a teenager in the mid-1960s. The Official Albums Chart is a list of albums ranked by physical and digital sales and (from March 2015) audio streaming in the United Kingdom. It was published for the first time on 22 July 1956 and is compiled every week by the Official Charts Company (OCC) on Fridays (previously Sundays). It is broadcast on BBC Radio 1 (top 5) and found on the OCC website as a Top 100 or on UKChartsPlus as a Top 200, with positions continuing until all sales have been tracked in data only available to industry insiders. Clarence Anicholas Clemons Jr. (January 11, 1942 – June 18, 2011), also known as The Big Man, was an American musician and actor. "It Never Rains in Southern California" is a 1972 song jointly written and composed by Albert Hammond and Mike Hazlewood and sung by Hammond, a British-born singer-songwriter. Lyrics content The lyrics of "It Never Rains In Southern California" tell a first-person story of a showbiz aspirant whose attempts to break into entertainment were failures, but who wants to hide that fact from those he had left behind to pursue his dreams. Though Hammond's and Hazlewood's lyrics do not actually specify the narrator's living conditions, it can be inferred that he was found homeless and penniless, a humiliation he would naturally be unwilling to reveal to those he had left behind.
