Newtown Rugby Football Club is a rugby union club in Newtown, Mid Wales. Newtown RFC is a member of the Welsh Rugby Union and is a feeder club for the Llanelli Scarlets. Newton Rugby club formed in 1925 and played their first game against Oswestry on 28 March that year. Newtown ( cy, Y Drenewydd) is a town in Powys, Wales. It lies on the River Severn in the community of Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn, within the historic boundaries of Montgomeryshire. It was designated a new town in 1967 and saw population growth as firms settled, changing its market town character. Its 2001 population of 10,780 rose to 11,357 at the 2011 census. The Welsh Rugby Union Division Two North (also called the SWALEC Division Two North for sponsorship reasons) is a rugby union league in Wales. The league was known as Division Five North before the 2008-09 season. Competition format and sponsorship Competition There are 12 clubs in the WRU Division Two North. During the course of a season (which lasts from September to May) each club plays the others twice, once at their home ground and once at that of their opponents for a total of 18 games for each club, with a total of 90 games in each season. Teams receive four points for a win and two point for a draw, an additional bonus point is awarded to either team if they score four tries or more in a single match. Scarlets
The Scarlets () are one of the four professional Welsh rugby union teams and are based in Llanelli, Wales. Their home ground is the Parc y Scarlets stadium. They play in the United Rugby Championship and the European Rugby Champions Cup (which replaced the Heineken Cup from the 2014–15 season). The club was originally named the Llanelli Scarlets but was renamed at the start of the 2008–09 rugby season. Welshpool Rugby Football Club ( cy, Clwb Rygbi'r Trallwng) is a rugby union club based in the Mid Wales town of Welshpool, whose first XV play in the Welsh Rugby Union National League, Division 2 North. The club also run a 2nd XV, a Women's side, Youth team, a Junior section for players aged 4–16 and two joint girls sides at Under 15s and Under 18s.
