The 2016 New York Republican presidential primary was held on April 19 in the U.S. state of New York as one of the Republican Party's primaries ahead of the 2016 presidential election. Donald Trump won his home state with 59% of the vote and picked up 89 pledged delegates. He won over all age groups, income levels and political ideologies, with most voters saying they want a candidate who "can bring change" and "tells it like it is". Most voters supported Trump's proposed ban on Muslim immigration to the United States. The Democratic Party also held their own New York primary on the same day which was won by Hillary Clinton. Apart from that, no other primaries were scheduled for that day by either party. The 2016 Minnesota Republican presidential caucuses took place on March 1 in the U.S. state of Minnesota, during the Super Tuesday contests, as a part of the Republican Party's series of presidential primaries. It is notable because it is the only state that was won by Florida Senator Marco Rubio. It was one of the only states in which Donald Trump got 3rd place. Marco Rubio was considered the favorite to win Minnesota, due to the caucus nature of the contest and the high proportion of college-educated voters. The 2016 presidential campaign of John Kasich, the 69th governor of Ohio, was announced on July 21, 2015. He was a candidate for the 2016 Republican Party presidential nomination. He earned 154 delegates and won only one contest, his home state, Ohio. Kasich suspended his campaign on May 4, 2016, one day after becoming the last major challenger to Donald Trump for the nomination.
