New Liberal Party (Germany)
The Social Liberals (german: Die Sozialliberalen), formerly New Liberals (german: Neue Liberale), is an association and a former minor political party in Germany based in Berlin. The former party was created as a split from the Free Democratic Party (FDP) operating in multiple states, and was founded on 28 September 2014 in Wilhelmsburg, Hamburg. The association states its distance from the FDP and its economic liberalism, and aims to create a programme based on social liberalism. The New Liberals form a parliamentary group in the district of Harburg (part of Hamburg) and currently have 3 seats in the assembly. On 6 January 2015, the Liberal Democrats, the New Liberals and another small party declared their intent to cooperate with the objective of an eventual merger. The LD still features this prominently, while the New Liberals had since restructured. The New Liberal Party ( he, מפלגה ליברלית חדשה, ''Miflaga Libralit Hadasha''), also known as the Center Movement, was a political party in Israel founded in 1987. Background The New Liberal Party was formed in mid-1987 as an alliance of the Independent Liberals and a number of former Likud Liberals, led by Yitzhak Berman, who had briefly organized as the Liberal Center in 1986 under a generally right-leaning platform that nevertheless supported ceding part of the West Bank in a peace treaty with Jordan. It presented a joint list with Shinui for the 1988 elections, which won two seats. The party formed a faction in the Knesset on 15 March 1990 during the twelfth Knesset by five MKs who had broken away from Likud. The New Liberal Party of New Zealand was a splinter group of the original Liberal Party. It was formed at a meeting in the Christchurch suburb of Papanui in June 1905 by two Liberal-aligned independents who sought a more "progressive" policy than that followed by the Liberal leader, Richard Seddon, and was similar to the Radical Party in 1896. Background The New Liberal Party was launched by Harry Bedford and Francis Fisher, but attracted a number of other MPs as well. George Laurenson, Frederick Baume, Alexander Hogg, William Tanner, and William Barber, all dissident Liberal MPs, associated themselves with the party, and two independents who had formerly been aligned with the loose opposition block, Ewen Alison and Alfred Harding, also joined.
