Nepean Bay, South Australia
Nepean Bay is a locality in the Australian state of South Australia located on the southern shore of Western Cove in Nepean Bay on the north coast of Kangaroo Island and about south-west of the state capital of Adelaide and about south-south-west of the municipal seat of Kingscote. The settlement in Nepean Bay was laid out by Nepean Developments Ltd in 1961 on sections 143 and 144 in the cadastral unit of the Hundred of Haines. Its boundaries were created in May 2002 for “the long established name” which is derived from the adjoining bay. Nepean Bay consists of land zoned for agricultural use with a settlement consisting mainly of low-rise dwellings located at its western end. The Nepean Bay Conservation Park is also located within the locality about to the east of the settlement. The Kangaroo Island Council is a local government area in South Australia that covers the entirety of Kangaroo Island, 13 km off the coast of the mainland. The council was formed on the 28 November 1996 by the amalgamation of the District Council of Kingscote and the District Council of Dudley. Its first meeting held on 11 December 1996. Mawson is a single-member electoral district for the South Australian House of Assembly. It covers the entirety of Kangaroo Island, and parts of the local government areas of Alexandrina Council, the City of Onkaparinga, and the District Council of Yankalilla. Major localities in the district include Cape Jervis, Kingscote, McLaren Vale, Port Willunga, Sellicks Beach, Willunga and Yankalilla. 2016 Australian Census
The 2016 Australian census was the 17th national population census held in Australia. The census was officially conducted with effect on Tuesday, 9 August 2016. The total population of the Commonwealth of Australia was counted as – an increase of 8.8 per cent or people over the . Norfolk Island joined the census for the first time in 2016, adding 1,748 to the population. The ABS annual report revealed that $24 million in additional expenses accrued due to the outage on the census website.
