Neerpelt
Neerpelt (, literally ''Lower Pelt'') is a town in Pelt and a former municipality located in the Belgian province of Limburg. In 2018, the municipality had a total population of 17,174. The total area is 42.78 km². Effective 1 January 2019, Neerpelt and Overpelt were merged into the new municipality of Pelt. Culture Provinciaal Domein Dommelhof is the cultural center of Neerpelt. This institute houses several smaller organisations: * Musica: Impulse Center for music, and manager of het Klankenbos (the sound forest) on the Dommelhof site * Zebracinema: arthouse cinema in Belgian Limburg * Circus Center: Flemish anchor point for circus art * Jazzcase: Northern Limburg jazz platform The Klankenbos is the biggest sound art collection in public space in Europe. Pelt (municipality)
Pelt () is a municipality in the Belgian province of Limburg. It arose on 1 January 2019 from the merging of the municipalities of Neerpelt and Overpelt Overpelt (, literally ''Upper Pelt'') is a town in the municipality of Pelt and a former municipality located in the Belgian province of Limburg. In 2018, the municipality of Overpelt had a total population of 15,478. The municipality consisted .... After Neerpelt and Overpelt had previously agreed in principle to a merger, the new name of the municipality was announced on 4 November 2017 after a local referendum on the question. Out of the three possibilities Dommelpelt, Pelt or Pelten more than 74 percent of the votes eventually went to Pelt. The name goes back to the Romans, who called the sandy area ''Palethe'', meaning boggy land. The municipal councils definitively approved the merger on 18 December 2017. Overpelt
Overpelt (, literally ''Upper Pelt'') is a town in the municipality of Pelt and a former municipality located in the Belgian province of Limburg. In 2018, the municipality of Overpelt had a total population of 15,478. The municipality consisted of the following population centres: centre, Holheide, Overpelt-Fabriek, and Lindelhoeven. Three hospitals are in Overpelt. In 2005, the St. Mary hospital opened as a merger of hospitals in Lommel and Neerpelt. In addition there is the MS-clinic and a center for disabled, Sainte-Ode. Effective 1 January 2019, Neerpelt and Overpelt were merged into the new municipality of Pelt. Eric Geboers
Eric Geboers (5 August 1962 – 6 May 2018) was a Belgian professional motocross racer and racing driver. He competed in the Motocross World Championships from 1980 to 1990, winning five world championships in eleven years. Geboers is notable for being the first motocross competitor to win world championships in the 125cc, 250cc, and 500cc divisions. Geboers' 39 career Grand Prix victories ranks him fifth overall among motocross world championship competitors. In 1988, he was named the recipient of the Belgian National Sports Merit Award. In 2011, Geboers was named an FIM Legend for his motorcycling achievements. Geboers died in a drowning accident in 2018. Ken De Dycker (born 6 June 1984) is a Belgian former professional motocross racer. He competed in the Motocross World Championships from 2004 to 2018. De Dycker represented Belgium at the Motocross des Nations four times and was a member of the winning Belgium team at the 2013 Motocross des Nations event that included Clément Desalle and Jeremy Van Horebeek. Bart Goor (; born 9 April 1973) is a Belgian former professional footballer who played as a left winger. Club career Geel Goor began his professional career representing K.F.C. Verbroedering Geel in 1991 having risen through the club's youth ranks. Provincial Domain Dommelhof is an institution of the province Limburg (Belgium) in Belgium for culture, performing arts, and sports. Dommelhof was opened in 1967 in the municipality Neerpelt. The institution was the first cultural center in Flanders. History In 1962, the Provincial Council of Belgian Limburg decided to set up Dommelhof. Second Minister of Culture Frans Van Mechelen decided to subsidize the construction of the cultural infrastructure. This infrastructure, designed by Alfons Hoppenbrouwers, included a theater, education and residence building. In 1967 the first show of the theater was a fact. The Arrondissement of Maaseik (; ) is one of the three administrative arrondissements in the Province of Limburg, Belgium. It is not a judicial arrondissement. The municipalities of Bocholt, Bree, Kinrooi, Meeuwen-Gruitrode, Dilsen-Stokkem and Maaseik, are part of the Judicial Arrondissement of Tongeren, while the rest of its municipalities are part of the Judicial Arrondissement of Hasselt. Sound art is an artistic activity in which sound is utilized as a primary medium or material. Paul Panhuysen
Paul Panhuysen (21 August 1934 – 29 January 2015) was a Dutch composer, visual and sound artist. He founded and directed Het Apollohuis, an art space that functioned during the 80's and 90's having artists doing sound installations, sound sculptures, and concerts about free improvisation, experimental music, and electronic music. Personal life Panhuysen was born in Borgharen. He first followed Monumental and Autonomous Art Studies at the Jan van Eyck Academy in Maastricht (1954–1959), and then followed Sociology of Art Studies at the University of Utrecht (1957–1961).
