Massacre In Rome
''Massacre in Rome'' ( it, Rappresaglia) is a 1973 Italian war drama film directed by George Pan Cosmatos about the Ardeatine massacre which occurred at the Ardeatine caves in Rome, 24 March 1944, committed by the Germans as a reprisal for a partisan attack against the SS Police Regiment Bozen. The film was based on the 1967 book ''Death in Rome'' by Robert Katz. An Italian court gave producer Carlo Ponti and director Cosmatos a six-month suspended sentence for their film which claimed Pope Pius XII knew of and did nothing about the execution of Italian hostages by the Germans. The charges eventually were dropped on appeal. The names of the victims are shown in the closing credits, as opposed to the cast credits and crew members. Plot The film stars Richard Burton as the Rome Gestapo chief Herbert Kappler, who carries out the killings of 335 mostly randomly and hurriedly selected victims in revenge for partisans killing 33 Germans: using a ratio of ten Italian victims for ever ...

Those Dirty Dogs

The film was made in the later part of the Spaghetti Western boom. As such it features such latter-day genre elements as self-parody, guffaw humour, near- slapstick fight scenes (with accompanying sound effects), machine guns hidden in everyday household items, and bombastic villains. Plot In Arizona, a nasty but capable bandit, Angel Sanchez, working for a mad Mexican boss who likes being called "El Supremo", leads the boss's ragtag bandit army in stealing several hundred army rifles, along with ammunition, from a U.S. army wagon-train. They kill all the army soldiers and abduct the daughter of a prominent local doctor. Three American soldiers, Captain Chadwell, Lieutenant Junger and Sergeant Smith, are sent by Washington to re ...

The Age Of The Medici
''The Age of the Medici'', originally released in Italy as ''L'età di Cosimo de Medici'' (''The Age of Cosimo de Medici''), is a 1973 3-part TV series about the Renaissance in Florence, directed by Roberto Rossellini. The series was shot in English in the hope of securing a North American release, which it failed to achieve, and was later dubbed into Italian and shown on state television. The three television films are: ''Cosimo de Medici'', ''The Power of Cosimo'' and ''Leon Battista Alberti: Humanism''. It is Fred Ward's debut role. Overview Like several other TV series directed by Rossellini during the 1970s, ''The Age of the Medici'' is a form of docudrama, in which historical information is communicated via dramatized conversations between figures from history, and between ordinary people. They are unabashedly "teaching films." As Dave Kehr explains, "The dialogue is bluntly didactic, with characters telling one another things they would already know entirely for the benef ...
