Naxxar Lions Football Club is a professional football club from the town of Naxxar in northern Malta. Their historical and arch-rivals are Mosta FC. A match between Naxxar Lions and Mosta FC, is known as the derby of the north, but because there are other derbies in northern Malta it is also known as the Northern Classic. History Naxxar Lions Football Club is a football club from the town of Naxxar in the northern part of Malta. Founded in 1920, it was the first football club in the north of Malta. The club had a very positive period in the 1940s and after some years languishing in the lower divisions, the club had several years of glory. In 1946 they secured promotion on the top flight division after winning the decider against Ħamrun Liberty. The Maltese Premier League, known as 360Sports Malta Premier for sponsorship reasons with 360Sports (colloquialism, colloquially known as ''Il-Kampjonat Premjer''), is the highest level of professional football in Malta. Managed by the Malta Football Association, the Premier League is contested by 12 teams and operates on a promotion and relegation system with the Maltese Challenge League, Challenge League. Edward Bolaños
Edward Orlando Bolaños Angulo (born 14 August 1998) is a Colombian professional footballer who plays for Cortuluá as a forward for Maltese side Naxxar Lions. Club career Born in Tumaco, Bolaños represented CD Estudiantil de Medellín and Rionegro Águilas as a youth. He moved to Spain in January 2017, after joining Rayo Vallecano's youth setup on loan. Bolaños made his senior debut for Rayo's reserve team during the 2017–18 season, in Tercera División. Maltese Third Division
The Maltese Third Division (also known as the BOV Third Division due to sponsorship reasons) was the lowest league level in Maltese football until 2020 when it was merged with the Maltese Second Division to create the National Amateur League. History The league was founded in 2000. Until 2011 the division comprised two sections - Section A with eleven teams and Section B with eleven teams. Both sections play two rounds with the winner in each group getting promoted to the Maltese Second Division. The Maltese Challenge League (referred to as the BOV Challenge League for sponsorship reasons) is the second-highest division in Maltese football, behind the Maltese Premier League. Zamoranho Carliho Leandro Ho-A-Tham (born 7 March 1996) is a professional footballer, who plays as a winger for Maltese Premier League club Naxxar Lions . Born in the Netherlands, he is of Surinamese nationality. Youth career Ho-A-Tham was born in Amsterdam, Netherlands and is eligible to represent the Suriname national team. In his youth, he played for the various youth teams of Zeeburgia. In between clubs in 2018, he also played for Wooter Academy. Club career Career in the Netherlands Ho-A-Tham would sign his first pro contract with Utrecht-based club USV Hercules, where he struggled due to numerous injuries that kept him out for majority of the season. Hamrun ( ) is a town in the Southern Region of Malta, with a population of 9,244 as of March 2014. The people The townspeople are traditionally known as ''Tas-Sikkina'' (literally meaning 'of the knife' or 'those who carry a knife') or as ''Ta' Werwer'' (which literally means 'those who scare' or more colloquially, 'the scary ones'). The 2023–24 Maltese Premier League was the 109th season of top-flight league football in Malta. The season began on 15 September 2023 and ended in April 2024. Michael Zammit Tabona (May 1950) is a former Maltese non-resident ambassador to Finland from 2014 to 2020, a hotelier, former president of the Naxxar Lions F.C. (1984–2000) and deputy mayor of Naxxar (1992–2000).
