Natural History Museum, Port Louis
The Natural History Museum is a museum in Port Louis, Mauritius. History The museum is the oldest in Mauritius. The museum building was constructed in 1880. On 22 December 2021, Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth inaugurated the Mauritian Ex-Servicemen's World War I and World War II Tribute Gallery inside the museum. Architecture The museum is located at the ground floor of Mauritius Institute building. It consists of Fauna Gallery, Marine Life Gallery, Insects, Meteorology, Giant Tortoise Gallery and The World of the Dodo. Exhibitions The museum exhibits various replica of fauna and flora. It is mainly located in the Port Louis District, with a small western part in the Black River District. Port Louis is the country's economic, cultural and political centre, and most populous city. Pravind Kumar Jugnauth (born 25 December 1961) is a Mauritian politician serving as the prime minister of Mauritius since January 2017. Jugnauth has been the leader of the Militant Socialist Movement (MSM) party since April 2003. He has held a number of ministerial portfolios and also been Leader of the Opposition. Early life and education Born on 25 December 1961 in La Caverne, a suburb area in Vacoas-Phoenix, Mauritius, Jugnauth was born into a Hindu Yaduvanshi family.
