The National Convergence ( es, Convergencia Nacional) is a political party in Venezuela. It was founded in 1993 by former President of Venezuela Rafael Caldera, who was a member of Copei and won a second term in the 1993 elections. Christian democracy (sometimes named Centrist democracy) is a political ideology that emerged in 19th-century Europe under the influence of Catholic social teaching and neo-Calvinism. Parliamentary elections were held in Venezuela on 4 December 2005 to elect the 167 deputies to the National Assembly of Venezuela, twelve deputies to the Latin American Parliament and five deputies to the Andean Parliament. Eduardo Lapi
Eduardo Lapi (born May 17, 1963) is a Venezuelan politician. He was Governor of Yaracuy for the National Convergence from 1995 to 2004. He lost to Carlos Eduardo Gimenez Colmenares (For Social Democracy) in the 2004 Venezuelan regional elections. In 2008 Lapi was granted asylum in Peru, after escaping prison in Venezuela. He had been charged with corruption, and said that he feared he would not receive a fair trial.
